I was looking forward to working with Al Wharton on his Seichin bunkai, so when we broke out into groups by kata after the morning warmups, I chose to work with Al on Seichin.

After that I went to Joe Pomfret's session. I knew Pomfret was a great fighter, but I didn't know he was such a great ...

I did make it to camp via a cell phone that Vicki graciously passed around the MMA cafeteria tables. A few folks tried to see if they could stump me by asking whom they were. I didn't miss a one of them. ;)

Which is a good thing too, otherwise I'd have to kick your butt the next time I see ...

The Italian word for an automobile collision is L'Investimento.

When you are involved in a collision (notice I do not say "if," but "when"), you will at first wonder what you should do.

Sit tight until a cop arrives? Call the consulate? Start bribing witnesses? Don't worry. The aftermath of L ...

I guess there are two things to consider here for no eye contact:

1) A typical beginners flaw. Concentrating on the incoming technique to be able to effectively divert it instead of looking the attacker in the eye and "feeling" the incoming attack and having the confidence that your blocking will ...

What is the role of a teacher if not to help you identify what to train to improve?

Yes to the "what", but not to the "how". I like to know what am I doing wrong, or could do better, and I also like to see how other people would do it, or have helpful suggestions of "have you tried it this way ...

I've found that a rigorous uechi work out on the very first day over does wonders to your predisposition.

As far as napping on the way back - try red wine

So back in the day - if I was the first one to get to the berry bush - I got the berries. Today, standing in a queue to check out my berries frustrates the critter in me that already has the berries and doesn't understand why we need to go through this superfluous ritual of passing in front of an ...
