Always use a 'parry' - never been taught any other way. I don't think of the circle part - the wa-uke as a 'block' - it's a grab, a dropping of a hand onto a target, to pull the opponent of balance or tansition into a wrist lock/arm bar etc.

"You, of course, are free to disagree with his decisions on this manner. But to state that my country 'supported' any terrorists in N. Ireland - with the implication that we armed, trained or otherwise abetted them "

Well. What about NORAID?

What about NORAID? Are you contending that ...

Your country supported terrorists who attacked my country

This is rank nonsense. President Clinton travelled to N. Ireland in support of the peace process. He did meet with the political wings of terrorist groups - both Republican and Unionist - in support of the peace process.

You, of course ...

Is there a check list that can be created? We see articles in Martial Arts Magazines check lists on how to pick a style or a school but I can’t recall having seen one on how to pick an instructor.

That would be a very valuable article. I would argue that the instructor is even more important than ...

You need to get away from the idea that the circle is a block. It's just a movement.

Sounds similar to what Jack Summers teches - 'circle never beats straight.'

Frankly I am one of more than a few people that almost never use the circle as a block per se. The closest thing I have to a "block ...

Just saw it Saturday as well. Enjoyed the fight scenes - a particular favorite was the battle in the Merovingian's front hall, with all the edged weaponry. As you said, definitely less gun-play, more swords/fist play.

Monica Bellucci. Yes please. :D

Oddly enough, the brief fight in the car ...

Congratulations to Chris..and to his proud Dad as well. I hope you do get around to posting some pics.

And to Chris - best of luck in the Navy - and a sincere thank you for electing to serve our country.

No... but you may want to carry one if you walk through early in the morning or late at night... ;) [/quote]

It's not exactly in my neighborhood ( though my girlfriend lives in that area) so I've only been a couple of time - but I'll remember your advice. ;-)

The Arboretum is a lovely place - never thought of it a a source for weapons though. ;-)

These are the guys that will quickly strip you from your delusions of grandeur in a few seconds, and send you scampering back to a corner of your dojo and have a good cry.

If you don't believe it, just go up to them and test yourself in a friendly way.

" Yeah but in a real fight I would..yada ...

Ooooo, that's a tough one.

Mention 4 guys that are allegedly "specialists" in one thing and you tick off another 6 that are probably just as good and/or just plain do things differently.

Certainly don't want to know what to tick anyone off, just curious as to what resources are available for the ...

3) Rotating about the spine. Rather than thinking of the spine as a rod that is to be flexed and snapped back in a thrust, think of it as a spring that can be coiled (the way you wind the spring of a clock) and released. When you chamber in sanchin, bring the shoulder back just a bit, mostly with ...
