I noticed that this particular thread was left hanging. I am not currently involved in the practice of criminal law, however, our firm does focus on civil liability issues which is an important consideration in addressing the question George/Van raised. In this post I want to give you some things to ...

Sorry guys for not being a more active participant—I have been quite busy.

Tekko-absolutely, we do two-tekko kata:

Maezato no tekko : the long version (my hat is off to anyone who can learn Maezato no tekko in a day—wow!
Konagawa no tekko.

We have several different types of tekko. I have two sets ...

Bill:

Been busy-

This discussion is interesting. Evan’s application is OK, and I am a fan of “thump and dump”….. and his comments about thinking too much are on point.

What I’d like to bring up is that there are two movements that follow splashing hands. The first, my Tai Chi buddy calls ...

We have not commnicated on this katain many years.
It has become one of our dojo favorites.

During my hiatus I assume you have more deeply explored many of the seemingly exotic ...

The issue of Asian titles having taken on a
mystique" is well put. The importance of titles in some venues is also quite true, though I don't care either and am more interested in the qualities of the person than their certificates.

When I visit other schools I am very formal, unless asked to be ...

Bill- nice post.

I first met Art when visiting George's dojo the winter of 1968. I have two memories of Art. He asked me to spar (error number 1-we never "spared" at the Okinawan school in Kalamazoo) and to allow "realistic" contact wear some protective gear-kendo armor- (error number 2), "here put ...

I remember Jason when he was a little kid  , please give him my regards. Is he teaching in Three Rivers? We are located just a tad north of Schoolcraft.

Now. My question is... What is a pioneer??????

When we discuss "pioneers" I believe it is important to separate two things ...

Bone:

Jim's name was at the top of George's list. He is well recognized by the Uechi community, he is respected and highly regarded. Many of us trained with or under Jim for extended lengths of time. He is respected, as are many of the Uechi practitioners-and there are many-who also are in those ...

Thanks. I'm going to look into the biomechanics a bit more, I am aware of a couple of studies on the relative strength of various placements of the bones of the hand, wrist and forearm that may be relevant.

take care,

Alan J. Horton was the first practitioner of Uechi Ryu in Michigan. He studied under Master Tomyose. He began teaching Uechi Ryu in the mid-60's. He opened his martial arts school in late 1965, William L. Keith ( who taught in Florida and is now teaching in Grand Rapids, Michigan)was his ...

I would recommend forming the Hiraken by bracing the index and second and third fingers with your thumb. The first joint of the thumb generally falls between the first joints of the index and second finger with the "tips ...
