Ironic that I'd get back to the forum today, read the question, and I had gotten an explanation for that today. The answer I got was all brain based.
Central vision is mostly handled by the frontal lobe. So, peripheral vision comes towards the forefront of perception. You'd be shutting down your ...

On techniques & principles
Well, I'm a student at Palmer. Maybe I can explain the poster and why I roll my eyes at it.
There's lots of "techniques" out there, basically a number of ways to treat a patient, usually put together by one or a couple good and successful chiropractors. The vast majority of chiropractors mix ...

Food for thought
Well, I'll leave most of this to Bill, who has much more knowledge of the body's metabolism under his belt than I do.
But, as far as why you eat in the morning... When you get up in the morning you have a low level of blood sugar, so if you work out, the body needs to get it from somewhere and gets ...

A perspective from a Korean man
I am fortunate to have a class mate from Soule, and we got into a discussion about martial arts and military in South Korea. The rest of this is conjecture from the talk we had.
TKD is something more people do, perceived as a "normal" activity. It'd effinately not the only martial art around. If ...

Why do we study the martial arts?
Well, I practice martial arts for a few reasons.
One, a relaxing social environment.
Two, self development.
Three, relaxation in general.
Four, physical development.

Never thought about it this way, but back in my TKD days (started from laziness, but made it a ritual) I would go home at about 8pm without putting on shoes or anything else besides the gi I had on, walk across the parking lot and get into my car, roll the windows down and drive home. After a couple ...

Half Hard/Half Soft
Well, being away from a proper uechi dojo recently, I decided to take up the free taichi class given by my college. Well, it's been an eye opener. There are movements in the form I'm learning that are exactly like sanchin, but much slower and not tensed up. An example of this is the part of sanchin ...

Kobudo
Why not adopt a certain kobudo organization that already exists as the "official" (for lack of a better word) kobudo organization for uechi-ryu? Why I saw this is that to my knowledge, most dojos that have kobudo already have a kobudo organization that they get their material from.

Good for you! http://www.xpres.net/~gmattson/ubbs/smile.gif

I went to my first tournament a few months back. I didn't like the way it was run as far as information distribution. (I wouldn't have known any of the rules unless I had known one of the judges as and ...

Talk about Taichi
As the sequel to "Talk about Taekwondo..."
What do y'all think about Taichi? Talk about it. Share ideas. What do you think of the techniques, principles... etc...
I'll pipe in after everyone else gets their saying. I just started taking taichi, on top of my Uechi class, so I'm not exactly an expert ...

Have you noticed if the skin where the conditioning is applied being tougher than on the rest of the body? Even if the whole skin seems to be thicker.

It feels a bit off topic, but about the heart rate and the game show...
From what I know, consciously relaxing your muscles and relaxing your mind will lower your heart rate. In martial arts, (well, in the classes I've taken and what I've studied) you need to learn to relax mentally so you can ...

Just thought I'd peep in. I seem to remember a study on the elderly pointing to those that became physically active (in a variety of ways) developing stronger bones. If we transfer that logic to a young man like myself, 22, then I'm building stronger bones just by working you.
Oh, and about the ...
