Steroids for grapplers ?

Mike Murphy:

No I am not considering taking steroids,I am just interested in what others think of steroids in martial arts including ones like grappling.

I have heard in the past of martial artists who take steroids hoping to improve their fighting and to win in tournaments and just want other ...

Steroids for grapplers ?

If you are a grappler and take steroids has it really improved your grappling and would you suggest it to others?

Those of you have never taken the stuff would you ever consider taking it and do you think it would really help with grappling or just for weightlifting?

For steroids or against it ...

What I mean by only learning straight punches in goju ryu was that you don't learn hooks or uppercuts. You do learn to use elbows however and do punch low, middle ,high but those are all done with straight punches.

I haven't done Pankration for very long(2yrs.) we learn simply street defense but unfortunately we don't learn the history of our art as you do in traditional arts.I have looked it up before and have again done so after your comment.

You're right about pankration being named after an ...

Your completely correct about Meibu-kan,it is another branch of Goju Ryu in fact there is not much difference. The katas are just a different version of the ones in goju otherwise it is basically the same.

Actually Meibu-kan has two to three man forms if that is what you want to call them ...

I forgot to thank-you for your response to finding an Aikido school in Vancouver,BC,Canada.so thanks.

Nice comment, you're just too funny, asking why a guy like me who hates kata would want to do aikido.

I never said I hated doing katas I just said I think they're useless doing them for ...

Hello again.I like your response.

Well here I go again. In goju ryu we were taught bunkai for our katas, but that doesn't mean those applications would work in real self-defense situation.

We also did some two man pre-arranged drills in goju ryu as I'm sure they do in every martial arts.It ...

hidden movements, other styles of karate

I would have to say I agree with Mike Murphy to some extent.

However I also disagree with some stuff he says.

Every kata does have some hidden movements but not as much as people are made to believe.

The problem with traditionalist is they have been brain washed to believe kata is the answer to ...

RA MILLER.

Well in karate kata is pre-arrange movements involving only one person.

I was always told by my sensei that's what you call kata.In my times as a martial artist,I have seen even in tournaments people always doing one man forms which they were calling katas.I've never heard of a two man ...

I have done 12yrs. of Goju Ryu and Meibu-kan Goju Karate and now 2yrs.of pankration.

For those of you who don't know what pankration is,it's a martial arts that combines Muay Thai Kickboxing and Submission Wrestling. One in pankration uses jabs, right cross, hooks, uppercuts, elbows, knees, shin kicks etc ...
