Tsuruoka Karate?

Hello,

Although not a practitioner of either Shotokan or Chito-ryu myself, I have researched enough historical references regarding Chito-ryu's founder, Tsuyoshi Chitose to provide links to a website with information about Masami Tsuruoka. This is his federation website.

Karate in the quad cities

Hello Adam,

I don't know of any Uechi-ryu schools in the area but I do know Roberta Cochran-Zavitz very well. She is an exceptional person with which to train and a long-time student of Taika Seiyu Oyata. You may read more about Taika Oyata and RyuTe at the following website: http://www.kushu.com ...

Kanbun Uechi and the Kojo family system

Gentlemen,

Thank you all for the help in locating further information. You have of course opened several new questions.

I had not heard the name Matsudo Tokusaburo who is claimed to have been a famous instructor of KojoRyu Karate. Is more information available on him or is this more folklore?

I ...

Kanbun Uechi and the Kojo family system

Hello,

I came across a reference to Kanbun Uechi having studied with a member of the Kojo family in Fukien, China prior to training in Pangainoon. I was wondering what if anyone knows more about this reference. What was the connection between the Uechi and Kojo families and did this relationship ...

All Okinawa Tournament Results

Bill,

Thanks for posting the web link. Do you know how many countries were represented at the tournament? Is there a complete list?

It looks like most of the competitors were from North and South America along with some Okinawans. I didn't see any European countries listed as finalists. Were ...

All Okinawa Tournament Results

Bill,

Over all, your response is very well taken. I really only meant to spur you on to go over the dynamics of all that plays into an event of this magnitude.

I agree with all of you points, especially, on the economics factors. All to often very good practitioners get over looked for that ...

Have Martial Artists Corrupted Defensive Tactics Training?

Hi Bill,

If you ever get a body of examiners to agree together on using the article as a requirement for teaching certification, please let me know that would be a great accomplishment in my book. I do agreed with you that it should be read by legitimate martial art instructors and the points it ...

No blocks in kata

Actually this concept has been misunderstood and misused by quite a few people. The idea originated from a statement that Taika Oyata made in the early 80's. Back in those days and probably still do today, some people had the idea that one blocks first and then strikes second in a ...

Using the body - it isn't simple!

Bill,

Maybe one or two at a time, I hope not all in one session. Actually, I meant over a period of time (weeks maybe even months) to give someone the sense of how it goes one way and then try it another way. But, Taika Oyata has been known to change it three or more times in a single session. I ...
