Women Grapplers

Hi!
You asked Why I don't do grappling?
Basically, I have a neck injury that just makes it too risky to roll around with that level of intensity.

But that doesn't mean that I don't approach the rest of my training with a great deal of hard work. I still have to do everything else everyone is doing ...

Women Grapplers

I am not a "grappler" but we do train in ground techniques for the obvious self defense benefit.

Sport grappling is certainly fun to watch as we have grappling classes twice a week in our studio. There is an occasional women in that formal class but they don't seem to stay with it.

When you watch ...

women's self defense programs

I think any ideas regarding non-physical women’s self defense are always important and need to be explored and really taught out as viable methods of self defense. There could be many situations where a physical counter attack could not be effective and could be avoided, but the alternatives to ...

women's self defense programs

I would still encourage anyone to respond to this thread even though it may have been previously discussed. There are many new people out there with new insights that can contibute to this.

This is not a stale topic and these threads should always be considered a fresh discussion especially in ...

Uechi Newbie.....

Glad to know you will be sticking with it. Just to give you a little background on how I started, I was 40 years old when I took my first classes and for some foolish reason I felt compelled to "keep up" with the 20 year olds. I didn't have their flexibility or their stamina or coordination. (I ...

Uechi Newbie.....

From a women's view, I remember that "newbie" feeling well in my first classes. You feel awkward, you feel goofy, you are wearing a ghi for the first time and you know you are the only one that doesn't know anything. Now you have to feel all that in a class with a bunch of strangers. And there's a ...

Maybe I missed something.

my first breaks

Sounds Terrific!!! We are all very happy for you!!!

YEP! Those knuckle breaks can be tough, and I know very well myself the feeling of the knuckles just crashing and nothing happening. Remember lots of ice on the knuckles and some light compression will help it heal.
The knuckles will heal and very ...

Older students

I think the "Aha's" are the best part. I assist in teaching the beginners, they feel awkward, nervous and unsure but we have fun building on each skill to a certain comfort level and then when a technique comes together and really works they are very pleased with themselves and often surprised to ...

push ups

Half push ups are a perfectly legitimate method of conditioning for anyone, adults, children, male and female. Using correct form (a straight body from shoulders to knees) you are still using the same muscle groups. I had read once that a full push up is lifting 60% of your body weight while a half ...

preparing for breaks

I have broken boards many times and it is not complicated and there is no trick to it either. Keep the technique simple, focus on the center of the board and see yourself putting your hand or your foot through the board. That part is the confidence in youself "a leap of faith" that it will happen ...

Older students

I train with a few women that are in their 40's and 50's. They started about the same time as I did (5-6 years ago). They train and practice hard and have a lot of fun in the process. Can I hear other's input on some of their older students? What makes it work well for them?

Sparing

Before hackers got to work, there was a discussion where someone wanted a more effective sparing workout when sparing men who "go to easy". I am curious if the sparing workouts are going any better. Hope that person is checking the forum and can give us an update.

Hackers??

Another forum moderator thinks Hackers have eliminated a number of discussion threads. Any confirmation on that?
