Investment Advice!!!

Postby gmattson » Fri Nov 11, 2011 6:49 pm

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines one year ago,
you would have $49.00 today!

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in AIG one year ago, you would
have $33.00 today.

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Lehman Brothers one year ago,
you would have $0.00 today.

But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all
the beer, then turned in the aluminum cans for the recycling refund,
you would have received $214.00.

Based on the above, the best current investment plan is to drink
heavily & recycle.

It is called the 401-Keg.

And as a bonus...

A recent study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a
year. Another study found that on average Americans drink 22 gallons of
alcohol a year. That means that the average American gets about 41
miles to the gallon!

Makes you darned proud to be an American!

401-keg jokes aside... The best current investment plan would be to sit on your money. Or if it was a period of bad inflation, put it in gold.

I have to tell you though... The market sure does suk these days!

Before he passed away, my father once owned a LOT of Washington Mutual stock. That's one of those companies that did a nosedive as bad as any of the ones mentioned above. And yet... he got his money back in dividends, so it wasn't all bad.

Canadians average about 89 litres of alcohol a year. We have farther to walk to the liquor store (alcohol is sold only in liquor stores) and carrying a gallon or two would weigh so much more cutting down on the litres per kilometre efficiency (note how much smarter we are). We walk a heck of a lot more than Americans without even taking into account that we use kilometres instead of miles...900 miles = 1448 kilometres. Therefore, Canadians are much more efficient drinkers.

I don't know but it's a choice of fuel.

Currently in addition to daily movement I walk 1 or 2 miles a day and 4 miles a day on weekends. Say 15 miles a week.
For fuel every two weeks I have a very short cognac and that's it. You work out the math but as I only buy two bottles a year on an average I'm outdoing everybody!

I prefer the mile having no desire to go to Paris and measure against two marks on a bar of Platinum. I use France for what is best, the grapes (many of which are actually based on California stock too).

I don't drink (at this point in my life). So... maybe this geek is getting it done with dilithium crystals?

@Leo - You don't have to remind me that Canadians walk more than Americans. All one has to do is go to a public place and start people-watching. There are days when I wonder why someone hasn't combined a liposuction business with a biodiesel factory. Think of the energy the fatties could be providing our economy, all while looking better naked.

Or not...

There are days when I have a very dark sense of humor.

For what it's worth... I didn't invent the idea of converting animal fat to biodiesel.

Cheapest Biodiesel Ever !!! From Animal Fat !!!

The more expensive energy gets, the more we'll be looking to do something constructive with things like animal byproducts. And biodiesel from animal fat and/or vegetable oil (typically canola) is a much better economic proposition than adding ethanol (from corn) to gasoline. The latter takes about as much energy to make as it yields on the back end.

And is a waste of perfectly good food. And ethanol!

Ethanol in gasoline only makes economic sense where you can grow sugar cane. The only sense it makes here is political.

I think Jason is just reacting to the imagery. Jason, here's something that might help wash that one out. I realize you're a little younger than me, so if you need to go younger, I'm sure you'll come up with something.
