Bayer advanced aspirin

Post by Van Canna »

Bill,

What do you think of this 'super Bayer' aspirin?
Bayer Advanced Aspirin was tested in multiple sites on dental patients who’d just had wisdom teeth extracted.

Dr. Eric R. First, head of new product development for Bayer AG’s consumer care unit, said 500 milligrams of the new aspirin started working in 16 minutes and brought “meaningful pain relief” in 49 [minutes], on average, compared with 100 minutes for the same dosage of regular Bayer.

The research has not been published, however, and the fast-acting medication hasn’t been tested against other painkillers.

Still, Bayer is hoping its new aspirin, which comes packaged in a bright purple box, will expand the company’s 14.6% market share by attracting a new base of younger customers, in their 40s — perhaps those who may not yet need a baby aspirin to ward off stroke or heart attack, but for whom the first aches and pains of middle age may need tending.

Mayo Clinic Aspirin

Dr. Virend Somers, is a Cardiologist from the Mayo Clinic, who is lead author of the report in the July 29, 2008 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Most heart attacks occur in the day, generally between 6 A.M. and noon. Having one during the night, when the heart should be most at rest, means

that something unusual happened. Somers and his colleagues have been working for a decade to show that sleep apnea is to blame.

1. If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at night.

The reason: Aspirin has a 24-hour "half-life"; therefore, if most heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the Aspirin would be strongest in your system.

2. FYI,

Aspirin lasts a really long time in your medicine chest for years, (when it gets old, it smells like vinegar).

Please read on.

Something that we can do to help ourselves - nice to know. Bayer is making crystal aspirin to dissolve instantly on the tongue. They work much faster than the tablets.

Why keep Aspirin by your bedside? It's about Heart Attacks -

There are other symptoms of a heart attack, besides the pain on the left arm. One must also be aware of an intensepain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating;
however, these symptoms may also occur less frequently.

Note: There may be NO pain in the chest during a heart attack.

The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their sleep did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from
your deep sleep.

If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth

and swallow them with a bit of water..

Afterwards:
- Call 911.
- Phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by.
- Say "heart attack!"
- Say that you have taken 2 Aspirins.
- Take a seat on a chair or sofa

near the front door, and wait for their arrival and

Hello, Van!

Aspirin is the recommended therapy for the elderly who are trying to avoid a heart attack. One should however follow the direction of a physician, as a person may be on other medications which also may be acting as blood thinners.

For the younger, aspirin - in my opinion - is inferior to other NSAIDs or acetaminophen (Tylenol) for pain relief. The very reason why it is taken by the elderly to prevent a heart attack and by someone having just had a heart attack is a reason not to take it if you are younger and more active. If you're in a contact activity, well forget about it. Your risk of bruising goes way up. Other OTC NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen) or acetaminophen don't have the same bruising risk. (Note: acetaminophen is not an anti-inflammatory.)

Aspirin no longer is given to children due to the risk of Reye's syndrome. Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen are instead the treatment of choice for pain relief and fever reduction in children. When there is very high fever, those two medications can in fact be alternated to act as a "super fever reducer" since NSAIDs are cleared by the kidneys and acetaminophen is cleared by the liver. When dealing with children however, one should remember that it's easier to induce a toxic overdose situation with acetaminophen than it is with ibuprofen. Such overdosing often happens when jumping from one level of the medication to the next (e.g. from Tylenol for infants to Tylenol for children) and not paying attention to the changes in concentration of the medication.
