Capoeira on NPR's "Only A Game"

Brat,

Thanks, again. I get it. The underlying "intent" is different though the surface looks the same... kinda Peking opera vs gung fu.

Capoeira on NPR's "Only A Game"

Post by Kyle »

I am fortunate enough to study under a Capoeira Mestre 2 times a month. I learn what I can, and practice what I remember. It has been my experience that a lot of Cap is just a dance. My Mestre says that when it comes to the street, Capoeira turns into a low-kicking/grappling/entangling weapon.

One simple fact stands true. Capoeira will not make you a fighter, but neither will kung fu or karate. It is the person that makes the fighter, not the art. I have known some people that have an innate understanding of movement in combat. If you teach one of them Capoeira, they will only become a better fighter.
