Master or Artist

Paraphrased quote -- about writing -- adapted from Carolynn Myss's book, Sacred Contracts (are mine):
"In order to (perform/do kata) well, you have to learn the laws (and foundations) of (technique) like a Master so you can break them like an artist."
" ... At one time I thought being creative meant absolute freedom to do anything you want ... however, real creativity is based upon a solid foundation of knowledge and discipline."
Adpating those words (orginally about being a writer) has given me a deeper meaning about the study of karate both physically & intellectually of concepts, repetition, and the art of following the footsteps of the Master.
