Excellent site, Carlos. Hopefully you and your students will post about any subject matter as you wish.

Best of luck.

Noticed something that looked pretty interesting. When around the second to last or last time Tomoyose Sensei does the circle block he appears to parry with his right hand, circle with his left hand and it looks to me like he actually "grabs" (maybe a wrist) with his right hand as he circles with his left under said arm. To me it appears (in my limited knowledge as I don't know this kata) as if he's set the fingertip strike up by holding the blocked arm extended opening up the shoulder for it.

Does that make any sense at all????

Steve

Hi Steve
In this sequence, Tomoyose sensei was explaining, not a kata technique or application of a technique, he tried to explain to someone, I ask, what was the correct speed of a uke? Uke the speed, the speed of the attack offered.

Thank you Sensei Carlos. I understand that he was speaking of speed. I just thought I noticed something in his technique that was interesting. He may not have been trying to show what I spoke of.

good news! I found the page of Wakayama Dojo founded by Sensei Kanbun.
its directors have been, Kanbun Uechi, after his first student,
Ryuyu Tomoyose, Ryukichi then his son, and now his grandson Ryusei.

Dear Carlos,

My information on this dojo is that the "original" Wakayama Dojo no longer exists, as we know. All that remains is the site, which is now the parking area of a pharmacy (or some small store).

The original Wakayama Dojo was tiny, only 6 tsubo (about 70 sq. ft.) with a plain wood exterior and a hard-packed dirt floor. Just enough room for 1 or 2 students at a time to perform for Kanbun Sensei.

The one in the Wakayama Dojo video was the 2nd or 3rd dojo built after Kanbun Sensei's time.

It appears that Kanbun turned the dojo over to Ryuyu when he left, then Ryuyu moved it to a nearby larger hall, and finally to the one we see today.

Thank you for posting this Carlos.

I wonder how old he was in that picture. Quite a handsome young man.
