"...Only when you THINK You'll Need it?"

You might recall this 'discussion' with someone on these forums, having taken this misguided position...why is it misguided?

Hello Van,

The fact is, if you only carry when you THINK you'll need your gun, you're taking a pretty big risk.

Yes, it's a calculated risk- I know you're not ignorant. But it's still a risk.

And, let's face it: Things seem to happen to us when we least expect it.

The ONE TIME you do something... that's when it seems like Murphy's Law strikes. I don't know why it happens, it just does.

In this world... when others depend on you, when YOU can only depend on yourself, you really can't afford to let that "one time" happen when you're defenseless.

The solution? Never Be Defenseless.

I'm not sure in what context the original discussion took place, but I have worn a badge, I grew up in the city and I carried long before I was a cop. But long before any of that, I was never defenseless. I study Martial Arts.

EDIT - Specially, I study Karate. I've studied several Martial Arts. I've studied hard. But I am a Karate man. I think Mark Twain said it best.
"When you pick up a cat by the tail, you learn a lesson you can learn in no other way."
Such is Karate.
