I wrote this post for a blog I do regularly on the benefits of mindbody strategies on mental health and well being. I hope it's ok to share this here. It's something I strongly believe and think others may agree.

Appreciate any comments, thoughts, and feedback on karate do. Thanks.

All I can say, Josann, is that I agree 100% with what you wrote. Your article is well written and it is the message that should be sent to prospective students. I always felt that there different components to the study of karate, the DO and the Jutsu...each equally important to address and study in depth.

I have been truly fortunate to be involved with Walter Mattson's dojo group. His dojo was in my hometown. What I describe in the article is how all in his dojo group teach.I got lucky as karate do was all I knew, and I started in the right system. I often wonder if I would have stuck with it if i started elsewhere. My current sensei, Joe Graziano, blends the do and jutsu nicely. He credits you and speaks very highly of your influence to the style as well.

Thank you Van.

Thank you Josann, and I feel honored by what Joe Graziano said.

We are lucky to have him join our class once a month in West Bridgewater, where he shows the group a very impressive, fluid, powerful and great acceleration of movements, in a relaxed state.

I can see the influence of Walter Mattson sensei and Gushi sensei in all his movements, along with great conditioning.
