Watch the Tueller drill AKA the 21 foot rule.

What are the lessons and how do you train for it?

I just saw this video on fighting with a shield, and it really opened my eyes because they fight totally differently to the way we see it in films, in fact it is a real surprise, such that I am thinking of looking into these ancient european methods, and it also makes me wonder if people are doing their martial art in the manner it was intended, and remember in European arts it is always with weapons first

If you click on the person who posted the "real knife attack" video, who is "bae313", and go to his youtube page, you will see a series of videos titled "slasher course". He has posted his complete knife curriculum for free. This is a complete and in-depth course in knife fighting, covering everything from mindset, legality, footwork, angles, etc. I bet there is nothing on the market that approaches this amount of information, and it is free. I have been mesmerized for the last couple of hours, and I have only seen a fraction of the course that this person with real experience and knowledge has put out there for anyone to learn. Wow.

Just listening to the intro of the first clip and I agree completely with his approach to teaching.

Its good principles applied to knife vs gun .

that are also good rules unarmed.

OODA loop and getting of the x

getting a fence/guard/spear out there verbalising , nothing that isn't going to help.

every idea , every thought , every action is another complication , you need to make them work , and you need to keep moving and flowing with your one objective, enter and destroy .

I've done this drill without the gun , fun thing for class , the key being the committed attacker , wont take long till every admits how hard it is once you get a committed swarming attacker.

then when there all happy playing both roles and how dangerous the knife is , shorten it up get the biggest meanest guy to swarm them with piston punches and a freight train intent .

you'll soon see the lights go on or off , and all the sparring mentality go out the window. It'll be all matador and counter ambush after that or just straight ambush and the roles reverse.

One great post Stryke.
the key being the committed attacker , wont take long till every admits how hard it is once you get a committed swarming attacker…swarm them with piston punches and a freight train intent .
you'll soon see the lights go on or off , and all the sparring mentality go out the window.

This is the one reality most of us never get to deal with…until it happens in class or on the street, where we'll wonder in a stunned moment, where all our class training went.

About the piston punches you mention…true enough…in a street fight one will be grabbed and piston punched as one aspect of it. This clip of two hockey players slamming each other, shows what can happen to us in a street brawl…and also will question our abilities to endure.

This other video clip also of interest…what do we see that is important to address in our training?

Well, maybe it would help to test our 'fighting skills' against those Detroit players.
