I guess everyone is confronted with the same question: "What is the purpose?"

When I talk to a stranger, and don't feel afraid to open up to them and connect with them on a basic level. When I am able to listen to someone and allow them to open up to me, and smile with their eyes, as well as their mouth.

When I see the karate in the people I meet. When I think of the belt that is folded up in a box and realize that it will always be there, as a challenge that I have decided to embrace.

Dont ever get confused by the bad guy

with all the focus on how to beat the bad guy.....

karate to me will always be about the confrontation of the self , You will learn , accept and grow if it's honest .

and knowing yourself and growing into yourself will be far more valuable and save you far more times than any technique of doom.

Know yourself , know your enemy and in 100 battles never be defeated .....

despite all the obvious benifits  , I think a real benefit is it seldom directly practical ...... something intrinsically yours that cannot be taken by anyone (even the high mucky mucks)

confrontation of self , a bucket of cold water to the ego , an eternal challenge , and a selfless and selfish pursuit to pay attention and do/be better.

Violence is a place were no one can hide , even from themselves. :evilbat:

But heck , you can probably find introspection in tennis too  8O

Well said, Marcus...

And who is your best instructor?

_ My martial art is the best because my instructor is/did/does this...

_Or, fear will always be the best teacher, get friendly with it...because it exists to keep you alive.

I agree Marcus
I sometimes wish that I had chosen different martial arts to practice. Maybe with a more cultural or historical bent. Cetainly I would chose differently if I started today  .but I didn't and the arts that I rejected I would reject again, like tai chi and aikido.but I wouldn't do the insane hand conditioing of goju either. Maybe there is a middle path

Hey Van , fear is information , can never have to much of that.

I think the trick is being open minded while remaining critical , tricky balance , but its the key to asking the right questions

Its the right questions which I feel are the key to improving , not the right answers.

hey Ray grass often seems greener , I think everyone looks and looks back , we only come to our points of view from our experience though it is what it is. A lot of those arts are were the masters seemed to arrive , rather than how they got there .
