Anyone know of any grappling schools or clubs near Somerville, MA? Particularly Judo, but anything is fine. I'm on mass transit.

Sityodtong is in Somerville too. They are very close to public transit (I think the blue line). They are primarily a Muay Thai school, but they have grappling classes with a great instructor as well. Kenny Florian is a Black Belt in BJJ and also fights in the UFC... he trains there too. They also have a few other guys who fight in the UFC.

I think its actually Brazilian Top Team thats in Everett. ATT and BTT are very close though, so its not a big difference. I think their website is http://bttboston.com

There is a listing of most of the schools that do grappling and mma on MassMMA. You can click here to see them all: http://massmma.net/schools.php

Hey, cool, I've been wondering what the name of this place was, since I pass by it and keep thinking I should go over and take a few Judo classes. Nice to find out the name of it. I live about a 4 minute walk from the place.

There's another BJJ guy in Somerville I've trained with also.
Can't recall his name.
He also teaches Wado-ryu.
He is a guest instructor at
www.phoenixjudo.com
once in a while.
I haven't been getting on the mat as often as I like lately.
Nobody tell Pomfret on me okay! :)
This thread reminds me how much I miss it.

We're closer to the Orange line, actually. Sullivan Square stop puts you a short walk away.

Orange Line is it then. I think I'm starting there right after new years. I wanted to start a while back, but had a torn meniscus which has healed since surgery about a month and a half ago, but just trying to get into decent shape again before going there. I'm really looking forward to it.

Well I found out I had to move shortly after I posted this. Now I'm at Jackson Sq/Stony Brook in JP. A google turned up the Boston Muay Thai school or something like that, but it might be a little bit of a pain to get to. Any other ideas for grappling/and or MMA type schools in that area? I'm on foot or public transportation.

Sityodtong (www.sityodtong.com) is pretty close to the Sullivan Square stop on the Orange line. It'd be a little bit of a hike, but I assure you it's worth it. We offer instruction in Muay Thai, Boxing, BJJ, and Kali. We've had several students compete successfully in Muay Thai, BJJ, and MMA.

The Boston Union wrestling club is nearby too: http://union.masswrestling.com/e107_plu ... /About.php
Haven't been there in years, but I remember them being a good bunch.

Not sure who else is around there.

I saw that from earlier and thought about it. It looks like good stuff. I'll probably make the trip to see what kind of travel time we're talking and check you guys out, as long as you promise not to make fun of me for having turned into a softie.

I promise not to insult you more than I insult anyone else... 8)

I'm usually there Friday nights, and Saturdays for open gym. Mondays and Fridays are the best time to check out the Muay Thai classes. There's an actual beginners class going on, and we've usually got someone on hand to take new guys through the basics.
