Shortage of 7.62 X 39 ammo

Whats up with this?

It's getting difficult to find this round . And the prices are crazy. The cheap mil spec stuff from the former soviet block and China are getting difficult to find.

The home grown stuff is getting tough to find and pricey. Found some Remmington UMC for 10.99 in one shop but they were out of stock. Found it in another store for 16.99 for twenty rounds...and they only had 4 boxes. This is way over priced.

What gives? I've heard everything from protectionist trade policies to protect the home industry against the off shore cheap stuff too a claim that the iraqi police are snapping it all up for their AK47's.

Hope to order 2000 rounds tomorrow from out of province, one of the last dealers who appears to have any surplus ammo in bulk in Canukistan.

Are the days of cheap plinking over?

I am sorry laird, but I keep pressing the post new thread button instead of post reply.

So, I posted a rather lengthy reply under 7.62x39 & 5.45X39mm ammo.

To make a long story short (as you can still read the long version) I spoke to Wolf directly and they indicate no disturbance in the supply of their ammo to the US.

I am sorry I cannot speak for Canada.

I will call again tommorrow and inquire about availablity in Canada.

It is nearly impossible to obtain premers anywhere in New England.

Ammunition is in short supply and the prices have triple in one year.

It is so bad I am bringing stashed 7.62, 5.56mm, .30-06, 5.45X39, .30-30, and many other calibers.

Dealers are limiting customers to 2 boxes of parramilitary ammo a day.

I talked to several dealers and the consensus was, especially re: small rifle primers and 5.56mm ammo, any sort of assualt weapon or military weapon as follows:

Folk are terrified of not being armed
People are scared of what the present administration will do, despite the 2nd Amendment win in DC vs Heller.
Military demad for small rifle primers is intense and growing. Civilian demand is high.
Some people fear a civil War.

Some people have been told by police after B&E's that the cuts in funding will make it impossible for Police to protect anyone and can only come in and 'fill the body bags".

China's increasing demand for metals has put Brass, Copper and Lead on a level equal to the desirability of collecting Krigerands.

Mexico, who government cannot control the drug lords, who kill, kidnap assainate at will, has asked the US to institute Severe Gun Control.

Mexico has the most severe Gun Resrictions North of Panama and it has done them NO good. I called a Texas Dealer and he related the frenzy of ammo and protection weapons that is really qite frightening.

Drug Cartels openly advertize in billboard fashion to Police and Military members to urge rhem to become double agents-adding comments re: 'your families will be protected and provided for" and offering huge "signing bonuses".

The Present Mexican Regime is losing its drug war in the same way Colombia was nearly destroyed as having a independent government.

Now it is going to spill over into the US.
