Third Generation

Post by JOHN THURSTON »

the f-15 was the first and now the oldest of what have now come to ber called the "third generation" fighters.

As it goes, it was the best of the Lot, but the Mig-29 and Su-27 were always nipping at its heels.

Nonetheless, it has never been shot down in air to air combat, but it has not faced frontline pilots.

I will be able to post a link showing a Swiss F-18 in dissimilar air combat simulation with a former East German Mig 29.

But for now, the 'starship'. It never collected a lot of nicknames. It is less formidable than the F-14, but Naval fighters take a tremendous beating from carrie operations and this, as much as anything else, caused its retirement.
