dDOS against GRC.com

Post by Dakkon 98 »

It's been quite in the "geek" forum for awhile. Thought I'd post some interesting reading and thought provoking material.

Most of use have heard of "dDOS attacks" in one form or another. The most popular was the Micro$oft one followed by Yahoo! and Amazon around the start of the year.
In case you haven't heard of "dDOS" it is Distributed Denial of Service. A attack that comes from many PCs. Usually the attacking PCs are referred to as "Zombies". The "Zombie" PC is usually a Windows based machine infected with a trojan. A trojan is a malicious program that runs 7/24 on your pc and can call home for updates.

Steve Gibson of grc.com had been a victim of such an attack. He being a researcher decided to investigate how the attack worked and how to defend against it.
He posted the entire saga @ his web site, it's a long and geeky read but could be interesting none the less.
Here is the link to the article http://grc.com/dos/grcdos.htm

Take the time to at least skim it over. There is some interesting stuff there!
