Paroxysmal cramp of a muscle group, can be excruciatingly painful, especially when in the lower back or abdomen.

Generally the cramps can be eased by using Homeopathic Mag phos, or Colocynth, or Cuprum metallicum.

When the patient is red-faced, and unable to even touch the cramped area, use Belladonna.

When rage has caused the cramps, use Colocynth.

When dampness has caused the problem, use Dulcamara.

Renal colic (kidney stones) is relieved by Berberis vulgaris.
Pain like a vice in the abdomen, from left to right, after acidic foods or unripe fruit, can be relieved by Ipecac.

Patients may scream with agony, or even fall down, or pass out. Sometimes they can have extreme diarrhoea and need China Officionalis, and they may vomit violently. In any event, make sure to see a doctor as soon as possible.

bella donna can be quite toxic in the wrong dosage..I know that is the case with any homeo and modern cures (digitalis, etc)

Is there a recommded dosage or just always seek practitioner's guidance?

Dosage

It is always better to find professional advice. However, if you need to medicate right then, it is advisable to take one dose and wait to see if that does the trick. If it fails to move the problem, which is of crisis dimensions, then take another after perhaps 15 minutes. You can generally repeat this for a good 5 or 6 doses, after which you either know the wrong remedy has been selected, or the problem is bigger than you thought. Some authorities suggest stopping after 10 doses, but to me that seems a lot. As soon as a medication starts to work, it is advisable to stop any further doses, until the remedy stops working. The above information mostly applies to acute, or suddenly-appearing problems. Longer term, or chronic problems, often require only one dose, and perhaps a top-up, days, or weeks or months later.
