Health magazine has ranked Panera Bread as the nation’s healthiest fast-food chain.
The magazine, which used a panel of experts to consider 100 restaurants’ menus, their use of healthy fats, meal preparations and sodium counts, among other factors, praised Panera for its offerings of whole-grain bread, fruit, and half-size soups, salads and sandwiches. Panera also won top honors for its kids’ menu, which includes squeezable organic yogurt and organic peanut butter and jelly.
Richmond Heights, Mo.-based Panera Bread Co., led by Chairman and Chief Executive Ron Shaich, owns and franchises 1,252 bakery-cafes under the Panera Bread and Saint Louis Bread Co. names.
