 Post subject: kicking on the ground

When I did the FAST Defenfese ground training, a good portion of time was spent teaching kicking on the ground. The assumption was that if you've been attacked in bed or taken to the ground and both you and your assailant are on the ground, then your legs are going to be stronger than his or her arms. So kicking is a good option.

We did thrusting kicks to a kneeling assailant's thighs to knock him off balance, as well as adductive heel kicks to the face and groin.

This has been a part of my training since I began Karate.

I teach my students to spin on the hip so the BG can't circle around behind you.

I've also done it with Joe Pomfret a few years ago as it's useful in the UFC type of training he does.

I'm told Van did a lot of this in his school back in the 70's, although I haven't done it with him.

Yup very necessary lesson , keeping your feet between you and the agressor if possible , and how to regain your feet from this position safely

lots of good targets lots of reach
