Uechi in Spain

Post by Dana Sheets »

The folks in Spain have updated their website:
http://traditionaluechi-ryu.com

I think their video of kyu kumite is a little different than the one I learned.
Can somebody who is more familiar let me know?

Thanks.

Hi Dana,

It appears to be the same as how I learned it (from Walter Sensei).

Thanks Joe. And Happy New Year to you!

I think what caught my eye most was where the final punch was aimed in #2.

I really like this group's website. I often send it along to non-Uechi martial artists when I'm trying to explain some of the hand postures, our conditioning, and that yes...we really do have about 5 stances and not 35.

I teach both punches to the chest area, however the block in that video which is usually a palm heel can make it appear low. I'm not really sure what kind of block they use in that. Reminds me of the yakusoku block of the front kick in one of the points of that kumite.

I teach two variations of defense in 2. Mostly using stepping from tenshin.

What I didn't like was the final backfist in point 4.
