My first treasured book is
UechiRyu Karate Do written by George Mattson
It's an excellent book. The basics text book that can help a beginner.
I would recommend to use this book to help your study.
Thank you George for all the work especially for the illustrations and descriptions.
My second favorite is
The Bubishi /The Bible of karate/ written by Patrick cCarthy.
Patrick McCarthy has spent over ten years researching and studying The Bubishi and the arts associated with it.
The Bubishi is an important historical book which was treasured through the centuries and influenced most of the karate's legendary masters . They have studied the book and applied their teachings into it.
The secret text passed from master to student.
The book called as "The Bible of karate" by the famous master Miyagi Chojun.
Is an excellent work based on philosophy, strategy, medicine, and techniques as they relate to the martial arts.
This is my favorite quote from the book:
"Do not deceive your fellow man.Deceiving people is the most serious
of all crimes as there is no defence against it. Should someone take
it upon themselves to deceive another, the God will protect the good
and judge the evil.
Those who use deceit and violence will never know peace or enjoy a long life."
/Bubishi-Patrick McCarthy/
There is one more treasure in my library...
"Artist of Life" about Bruce Lee by John Little.
It is a collection of Lee's private letters and writing.
Also including his poetry, life philosophies, his thoughts on martial arts, love, friendship, acting.
A fascinating to learn the man behind the myth.
He wrote poems to encourage his friend.
"It's all in the state of mind."
If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not,you don't.
If you like to win,but think you can't
It is almost certain you won't.
If you think you will lose, you are lost.
For out of the world we find
Success BEGINS with a fellow's WILL.
It's all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are.
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can win a prize.
Life's battles don't always go to
The stronger or faster man.
But sooner or later the man
Who wins is the man
WHO THINKS HE CAN!
