Aha! I figured it out!
The rising levels of carbon dioxide in the earth's atmosphere's have directly led to an increase in length of the the presidental campaign.
Reduce Carbon Emissions!

Not too far off. All the fuel they burn in their private jets and with their big black SUV's. And then they turn around and try to make the hoy poloy give up their toys.
