What is your first memory?

I think that you are all a bunch of kids (except for GEM) who also remembers Pearl Harbor.

I can remember that Sunday morning, reading the automotive section of the New York times sitting on the living room floor in front of the large console type radio (I was ten years old) and hearing FDR announce that war against Japan had just been declared.

This changed my childhood (and everyone elses) with the gloom of WW2.

The black outs, the air raid sirens, the Air Raid Wardens knocking on the door; Pathe News at the movies; bond rallies; dismal radio and news reports. The hughe Coastal Defense Guns in the Nahant, MA rocky cliffs; the Coast Guard PBY's partoling the coast for submarines; the high powered search lights scanning the skies on the coast at night; the rationing, the shortages, but on a higher note the patriotism of Americans!

Now that made me feel younger.
