Kid Rock- I so started lik'n him when I saw that show with he and Jessi going to Mexico-

Hello neighbor Victor- though I'm a bit north of you in the lakes region.

I do want to make it clear that I implement the use of games to "teach the karate and teach the form and techniques"

My classes are not one great big babysitting fest LOL- Not by a long shot. The games that I come up with help the kids to see the "why" and to understand in their own language so to speak- about what we are doing in this karate-

My classes are not filled with submission to Sensei- but they are filled with dicipline and respect- which I make it clear that that goes all the way around the room- to respect me is to respect themselves- to be nice to me and listen- means learning and listening from and to each other blah blah

I don't need to be telling all of you guys this stuff- lol

I have several years of practice though- and it isn't a babysitting fest thing I just make self defesense fun- that way it becomes important and valuable to the kids for their own reasons which will keep them coming back-

I have seen more Karate books for kids coming out lately.
Look up some at Amazon and who published them and you might get some interest.
Don't give up the dream.

I won't but gee- who got the karate books going around started I was ahead of the game- those agents and publisher's should have listened to me I knew what was coming! LOL

Hopefully it will help though I'm hoping a couple new leads will help- and I'll do that search-

It's hard not to let it go-(the dream) but then another email comes about some little boy or girl having read the story and having loved it or truly been inspired and that makes even a not so perfectly published copy- worth every minute!

Um, back on subject...I'm becoming more interested in these "games" everyone is posting, got more?

One of the games talked about in another post I think- the one with slicing up paper towels-

I thought about how I could bring that in- and whether or not it would work - because when I tried it with hubby I just kept getting the perforations- and I didn't have a pizza box to one knucle- (perforations in the paper towels make them very easy to break apart with a strike)

BUT- now I'm excited because one of my students has begun to have a problem with actualy bringing his strike "out" he is keeping his hands durring wauke's as well as sanchin strikes way to close to his body- so I plan on using the paper towel method/game to help him to "want" to bring that strike out far enough to actualy "hit" with it-

and I think the paper towel thing will make that fun for him- and bring him out of the keeping hands closed in thing-

another game I've always used is the stations or lines- where they run to one station and do punching- then back to the wall- then they run to a diffrent spot do something else and run to the wall then to a third and back right

well at these diffrent stations I have them do excersizes that will help them with whatever they might be having trouble with-

i.e. kicks- most kids that I've been teaching don't want to bring their knee up high enough- so at one of the stations I had them bring their knee up to their belt and smack their hand- like putting their elbows on their hips (crude explanation here but I know you can see what I'm describing here) elbows at hips hands extended bring their knee up and smack hand which is at the belt level right-

that excewrsize helped to remind the children to bring their knee up when we then went to kicking a bag-

I'm trying to think if I have anything original to give you but most of my teaching techniques have been adapted from the excellent ideas here or from hub that came from here

"Stations" are a creative way to get many people to do a variety of things in a short period of time. It is especially useful when your equipment is limited. That way you can stagger people through the various stages. Excellent idea.

Plus, you can come up with different unique things to add into the standard fare each day, so the workout is never the same. That's useful both for breaking the boredom and also to keep people on their toes (figuratively speaking). You never want people to get in a comfort zone when it comes to fighting - except on the street. As one of my students jokingly used to say, "Cry in the dojo; laugh on the battlefield." Challenge and disruption is good.

If you make people used to the unfamiliar, it makes it difficult to rattle them. And kids thrive on a bit of that.
