When I answer one of these I try to just free my mind and disconnect it from the preceding activity; so I freely admit that I am trying to 'beat the test.' What is the logic at work here? The simple addition problems and then a tool and color - what's the connection?

I saw another one of these where you had to count the number of times F comes up in a paragraph. Seen that one?

I'm sure you're right, Bill, about it being an urban legend. What I was noticing, though, when I saw this thing circulating around the internet and people's emails was that a lot of people thought of red hammer and couldn't figure out why. They thought it was some magical hocus pocus that was taking place.

The "count the Fs" actually has some basis in psychology, as we raed wrods as cmopleet smyblos rather than as individual letters, so we often over look the Fs in "of" or "if". Pretty neat trick; gets a ton of people. People and the mind are extremely effecient/lazy.

Ask someone "how do you spell coast, how do you spell most, how do you spell coast, how do you spell host, what do you put in a toaster?"

Lazy mind falls asleep and says "toast".

You learn all sorts of weird things in college electives. Read about epileptics and split brain operations... WEIRD. Or other brain damage, like the famous "railroad spike through the head" case.

In all of us is the ability to be great.
In all of us is the ability to conform.
Which will you choose?
