Danica Patrick tour up the racing world at Indy today becoming the first woman to lead the Indy five hundred and she ended up in fourth place and proved to every guy out there she belonged and not just belonged but is a real contender. She's awesome!!!

I have a modest background in club racing, and women were prominent figures.
A lot of men were surprised to show up at the track for their performance driving school to find that DC (a lady) was to be their instructor.

I actually filmed her for a video program about 7 years ago for a program for Lifetime TV entitled "Women Behind the Wheel."

We profiled Janeth Guthrie, Shirley Muldowney, Patti Moise, Tammy Jo Kirk, a woman who dragged top fuel, Lyn St. James and Danica Patrick. Danica was 14 at the time and going to mini-indy and mini-dragster courses. She was considered to be the "next big thing."

Obviously, she's more than lived up to the predictions.

I grew up in Indianapolis and my Daddy was a race car driver. He used to race open wheel sprint cards and midgets and even dragged in the NHRA US Nationals back in the day.

He even had me certified to race quarter-midgets when I was about 10 years old. But the July heat in Indy coupled with the leather suit, gloves, and helmet while sitting on blacktop that was 100+ degrees was decidedly not fun for me.

Did you know that when Janet Guthrie first raced at Indy they didn't even have bathrooms for her in the Pits? Back then women weren't even allowed on Pit Row. Boy how times have changed...
