I'd like to know the feminine response to the new craze. I talked to three guys in our dojo and they like the idea for their wives but not for their daughters. Is this a hypocritical response?

I'm sure it's a good workout. Isn't it the In Moment culture's adaptation of Belly Dancing or Tantric Yoga? I'm glad to see sex move off the totally horizontal plane.

The object in part is for women to more clearly come to terms with their sexuality. Does it work? Did Belly Dancing and Yoga Work?

In class, the only thing bare is their feet. Please don't tell Quentin Tarentino

There is a difference at a certain level on the origins. Belly dancing was originally for women by women celebrating their fertility. It wasn't a dance made for men.

Stripping has a long history of being of one gender for another gender's pleasure. Be that in Burlesque, Moulin Rouge, Chippendales, your local topless bar, etc.

For your wives and not your daughters? Makes sense - most men are protective of their daughters and don't want to see them as sexual objects - which personally I think is just fine. So the hypocricy makes sense.

So it is more about the age. Most health clubs don't allow members younger than 18. However there is a growing trend of family health clubs that have all ages. So in this case it will be up to the community to decide if this is within the scope of acceptable. What is acceptable in Manhattan may not be the same as in Sioux City, Iowa.

The US is slowly getting better and better at the idea that all grown-ups have the same equipment and that all grown-ups are sensual and sexual individuals. However I would be a bit disturbed to find a strip aerobics class at my local high school during gym class. So at a certain level guess I am still influenced by the puritanical ethos the US is well known for outside its borders.

"shuddering" at the thought of WATCHING "Tony doing the Cabbage patch."

No offense meant--would not wish to see you do the "mashed potato" either. :)

Or myself for that matter.

At the camp, Kami did a belly dancing class for all of us.

I happen to be one of those folks who likes watching dancing, and likes to dance. My great aunt Bonnie was a pre Radio City Hall Rockette. (I'm supposed to be getting her professional picture with the classic high kick from dad so I can scan it before it is lost.) My sister and her gang ruled the VA Beach area during the disco era, getting free admission wherever she and her friends went. Why? Because other customers followed. 8) So you might say it's in the genes, or jeans, or... What-ever!

Back to Kami... If she lived in Richmond rather than out near Portland, I'd have her as part of my class in a New York second. It takes someone like her (or Dana with her own Sanchin way) to snap the rod out of the Uechi robot and turn Sanchin into a fighting stance. In my humble opinion of course... And yea, it felt great.

Now if I can only keep Vicki from laughing in class whenever I move my hips like that...

As for mothers vs. daughters, well this is a no-brainer. Last time I checked, there were statutory rape laws on the books, and being a mom means... Well... You know what I mean.

There's a time to be a girl, a time to move like a serpent, and a time to celebrate your sexuality. I have no issues with any of these scenarios.

Oy. Do I sound like a head-case or what? You know most of the time I don't read what I type on these forums. I just type what comes out of my head. And that was just a particularly special sentence.

My 12 hour day is done and 14 hour day awaits tomorrow. I'll check in on ya'll Friday.
Maybe then I'll sound more human as I type and less like some weird college paper.

cheers,
Dana

You can do a "google" on "Strip Fit" and come up with several hits on DVD's by Carmen Electra.

Here's a review of one of her discs:

http://www.phase9.tv/dvdvideo/carmen_el ... _strip.htm
With a funky soundtrack and invigorating routines that will encourage people to get-up off the sofa and fulfil their New Year’s resolution to get in shape and look and feel great, Fit to Strip is the ideal incentive in taking the first steps towards a healthier lifestyle.

Including three dance routines, a complete dancer’s warm-up and multiple music tracks, Carmen pulls out all the stops in order to help audiences up off the sofa and fulfil their New Year’s resolution.

I think there's lots of women who might like the DVDs to work with in the privacy of their own homes.

My 21 year old daughter still finds the Billie Blank workouts "stimulating." :P

There is more than one way to do Uechi and endless ways to train. I've trained with plenty of folks who explain very well what they are doing or not doing with their hips and why. So let's just focus on what is posted on this thread and not what isn't.

Some football players took ballet lessons awhile back because coaches were looking for ways to build the body awareness of their players. Some women may be looking for ways to do this and if they have fun, then that's all the better.

John - are you suggesting these tapes might be a good way for any uechi-ka to build body awareness or just women?

Yikes. Maybe I spoke myself into a trap    I was thinking only of women :D

One of the guys I work out with in weapons has done ballroom dancing with his wife for about 10 years and he really has power in his bo techniques due to his hip and pelvic fluidity. I need to learn to do these moves better.

I got a good kilt waggle :) but darlin' I ain't about to strip. There are, however, on further consideration, certain circumstances ....

I continue to promote Kami's belly dancing exercises - with no apologies. And Vicki can giggle all she wants at me. Blblblblbl!!! :P

On the stripper front... There are a few "Gentleman Clubs" on the south side of this city separated by the James River. I've never felt a need to go to them. Somehow paying tips for a "performance" that you know isn't going anywhere to me seems pointless, demeaning, and frustrating. Now if it's someone I know and it's for me, well that's another story... 8) But, to each his/her own. I'm glad people can have fun, make money, and not spread cooties. It's all fine by me.

That being said, it took a year before I began to realize that more than a few of the nice young lassies I befriended in the weight room at my health club turned out to do the stripping thing on the night shift. I didn't know; I don't go to those places. I just see fit women with nice smiles, and engaging in conversation seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to do. Twist my arm, for crying out loud. :P Probably the fact that I would do so and not go farther made me less threatening and a good buddy. Little did I know...

So, it seems that to do these routines, being in shape is part of the deal. That should be no mystery to any of us driven to the gym by vanity more than by health or a need for self defense.

Years ago, I stepped into the Platinum Club in Waikiki Beach, Hawaii, and blew $800 on beer, Long Island Ice Teas, and naked table dances with just about every girl in the place...

All I got for my $800 was a pair of these:

That was the last time I ever set foot into a strip club!
