Ha... but that's not Uechi, my friend. No hip rotation allowed.

You do that in some Uechi groups and you'll be tarred, feathered, and run out of town.

And don't you dare breathe out with your strike.
But it works! I may not twist my hip during the sanchin kata, but if im going to hit, i will use my body.
Your a renagade too arnt you?Like rick? Were you tarred and feathered?
:)
No, but he had George for a Sensei. Not all of us could be so lucky.

Well, I am more of an outlaw. One of my single actions 45 colts with pearl handles is named the ‘bounty hunter’ _ after the guy I took it away from who now rests in peace.

My double barrel 12 gauge _ Sicilian Lupara_ is named ‘outlaw’ _

They don’t try the tar and feather trick on me, because they know I’ll shove the ‘outlaw’ down their throat, the Lupara up their ass and pull all three triggers at once.

HAH HAH! Van, do us all a favor...

Take this one out first...

Well.... I didn't really understand the last couple of posts... (contextual humour and all, I'll need to put in some more time here)...but I take it that its a few different ways of saying that you're "breathe out"ers at crunch time and you're not upset about being outcasts... especially if reality is on your side.

With so many outcasts, one has to wonder if you're really outcasts? Hmmmmn.
:)

Thanks again for everyone's help! I feel like I should be paying dues to some kind of virtual dojo. This is good value!

> What kata is that< :)

Why, I thought that would be clear by now_ Mr. 46_

It is the '4-M' kata..As in [Mucho-Macho- Manly-man] Kata.

On the serious side, Bill’s post explained succinctly how you should allow to be breathed by your body or chose your breath patterns to fit your perceived needs and movement.

Again, Just for fun, try polling the ‘Uechi master race’ both here and on Okinawa_ re Uechi breathing standard.

Bet you will be told you never exhale with strike/effort_ always after strike/effort_ with the exhale taking the form and sound of a short tsst, so you can show your teacher that you ‘are breathing’ 8O

Figure that one out. Also remember that according to Toyama sensei, a Kanbun disciple for ten years, Kanbun exhaled with movement, as he needed to.

Also for an in depth education on breathing methods by a researched professional, who has studied breathing for 15 years, go to Scott Sonnon’s writings.

Funny. The last time I worked out with my former association members, I was told I was breathing wrong too.

I remember now disagreeing with Doug about how to breathe once, and then it was never mentioned again.

I always believed you exhaled partially on a strike but never completly because you could get the wind knocked out of you. It makes sense to exhale when you strike. You breathe when you push during weight training right?

Only a homo would listen to another mans breath... :P

Benz.. I think your ex-sensei might have had some fantasies about you. It's probably a good thing you got out of that group when you did.

on getting the wind knocked out of you: If you exhale into your diaphram instead of the open air, there will still be alot of internal pressure to aid you in repeling hits. Boxers in my club do this, and so can you.

That's exactly what I do :) I sh!t you not.

That's how they taught me in Goju (USA)when I was 12. I guess some lessons never die.

Hey.. wait a minute.. I'm a respiratory therapist..but I get paid to listen to other men breathe

Just this last post while on my way out with my MINI 8)
Funny. The last time I worked out with my former association members, I was told I was breathing wrong too.
Your breathing ‘wrong’ causes them to become short of breath_ thus the reason for the objections.

This, from Sonnon’s site, tells the tale
Those who cannot fight --> coach.
Those who cannot coach --> fight.
Those who can do both --> revolutionize.

Go here for some breathing professionalism instead of amateurish self centered Bull S*hit _

And go here to watch it in action_

Simply get the hell away from the uninspired senseis, or stay at your own peril.

Exactly, and, yes, you never fully exhale_ retain one third of air, and immediately breathe back in to replenish.

Now what you will hear is that Uechi is not boxing. :)
