Dream Dojo?

The dojo to many is a place of beauty, where the daily ritual of working out takes place. Do you have a special place where you work out? A special design you created that gave the dojo its personality and in the process gives you the inspiration to put a little more into your workout? Share your secrets here.

Dream Dojo?

Post by Danny Smith »

In truth I have no idea what a "traditional" Japanese
or Okinawan Dojo looks like as I have never had
the chance to see one, although I have been to both
places. Go figger.

Anyway, The one I AM going to build with my own hands
is going to be constructed of rough cut Cedar from
trees that grow on my place here in Oklahoma.
It will have polished cedar wood floors, sliding walls,
and natural lighting. No mirrors, no electricity but will have
a modern bathroom with a shower 8). Ok, maybe
electricity in the bathroom. Maybe no bathroom
That's it so far. It will not be very large but it doesn't need to be. 20 X 30 will be fine. Maybe smaller.

Any suggestions?

I don't know exactly what you're looking for, however I've found that I enjoy a dojo with a lot of head room, high ceilings are a favorite!

I'm just pleased to have a place to train and even more so if I've got someone to be a non cooperative partner.I'll post a few shots tommorrow of some of my old indoor dojo's. They are not pretty , but I've got some good memories of the training.

All I really want these days is a soft floor or mats .

I`d love a bench , power rack and a thousand pounds or so too

Backyards are the best Dojos

Post by -Metablade- »

Wind rustles through corner bamboo
White paper separates sacred ground.
Slime-covered barrel lives a Koi;
Flash and disappear!
...replaced by a wise turtle.
Sky above
Sunlight through Maple.
Move through a mossy stone path
Autumn leaves lazily fall like fireflies
Something chirps
Predator stalks
Feet to cold naked rock
pebbles dig deep.
It rains,
All is quiet.

This is my Dojo....
There's a bit of Metablade in all of us.
