Yea, mate. Throw that stereotype BS at me, and I'll hit you upside the head with me whiskey bottle!

Note the proper Sanchin posture...

But not all stereotypes are bad...

RACastanet & Bill:

And I thought I was the only 'cheap' ancient who got the set in
the 60's, and I still use them. I was asked a few months ago by
visiting friends why I did not get 'a real set of professionel weights and a barbell with bearings', My asking if the pull of gravity would change for the weights or would I be lifting more or better with the new set was received with a startled "but they look and work better'.

OK, if I must come into the new wave please tell me where the new and improved San Chin is taught, with the special power Gi to improve my speed [GRIN++++].

Best day to all.

There's an interesting photo in Alan Dollar's book showing the "weight room" of a traditional Okinawan dojo. The weights were car parts (axles, etc.) retrieved from a junk yard.

"The ancients" developed their Uechi hands of steel from glorified rice vases. To date, I haven't found anything quite like the shape of those devices, although there are several inventors working on it. My only complaint is that the things are too damn fragile to put in a typical gym where the idiots play with and break stuff.

Check out the "Jars" thread on the body conditioning forum. they mention this.
http://www.bushipower.com/ ( the punch blocke power charger)

I'm really interested and I'm going to get one. I've changed my training regime quite a bit lately and I want to incorporate these, I'm also using one of those weider "Wrist Rollers thingies" were you hold it out in front of you and wind it up and down  .like Bruce Lee used

Gordie Howe (my opinion greatest hockey player of all time) has in his book a few homemade devices he developed to build strenght for not only firing a puck with seemingly little effort but also to hold your own and still appear as the gentleman in a fight. Brick layers come about this strength naturally

I like twirling a sledgehammer around , it`s fun .

If I was in the states I`d get a set of Scott Sonnon weighted Clubs , theres a lot to his methodology .

but it`s really about variation , improvised equipment is great because of the diversity of work .

fill a sack full of dirt , pick it up above your head throw it , then go get it and throw it back . grab one in each hand and see how far you can walk without loosing your grip .

It`s about imagination as much as equipment .

diversify , build all around strength
