(20) The prototype of Sanchin that Kanryo Higaonna taught in the early days in Okinawa is as follows.

Yep... Higaonna's Sanchin is basically Uechi's Sanchin.

It makes you wonder who got what from where.

It goes into how Miyagi made changes. I wish we had someone in Okinawa who could see how the To'on guys do it.

You don't necessarily have to go as far as Japan to find Tou'on Ryu. Mario McKenna lives and teaches in Vancourver, British Columbai, Canada.

I met him last year and we shared the better part of a day together. I observed his Sanchin, it was done with closed fist, but differently, more slowly, without tension and softer breathing than the Goju execution. But in essence it was the same form.

Are both related to the Uechi Sanhin, IMVHO, sure. I'm not sure whether Tou'on also does it with open hands..

But I am far from an expert on the Tou'on Ryu.

Mario made it very clear he was only going to follow his teachers instructions how to pass on the art, and if I remember correctly, even in Japan, there are only a handfull that practice that path.
