Ejaculation and coffee

Post by Bruise* Lee »

Okay this thread might be offensive and get deleted. But maybe there is someone like me. I am older and find I have a harder time ejaculating. I think part of it is that when I was younger I wanted to be some superlative lover and would always try to hold off - now like Pavlovs dog, holding off is not a choice its a conditioned response. Secondly, if I hold off I think my prostate gets swollen and then its hard to function right - after wards it even hurts to pee sometimes when this happens. If I wait too long I just cant ejaculate.

So I did some research and thought about this. Erections are a function of the parasympathetic (relaxation) response and ejaculation is a function of the sympathetic (fight or flight, excitment response). Ejaculation is a product of the alpha 2 adrenergic receptor stimulation.

Alpha blockers inhibit this response - they lower blood pressure and relax the urethra as it passes through the prostate making it easier for a man to pee. I do not have to take these , my dad does, and hopefully I never have to take them. but I figured if I can find things that do the opposite I can make things better for myself.

Among other things I found coffee does the trick. I began drinking coffee last November, both because it helped me study and because I found while doing pulmonology that it helps lung function.

Granted this study refers to caffeine and premature ejaculation - but the idea is the same, the stimulant effect speeds of the process.

Male rats with lesions of the cerebral cortex near the midline in the frontal region destroying most of the cingulate cortex and producing some damage to adjacent frontal areas have very long mount and intromission latencies. Otherwise their sexual behavior is essentially normal. The dopamine releasers amfonelic acid, 0.5 mg/kg, and amphetamine, 1 mg/kg, reduced the mount and intromission latencies in males with such lesions. Caffeine, 30 mg/kg, had similar effects

Supposedly there was not a strong correlation with intact males, no brain lesions, but what the heck

It may not just be males

Collectively, these results suggest that the effects of caffeine on female mating behavior may reflect an increase in both sexual motivation and locomotor activity.

Conversely Viagra and the like may inhibit ejaculation

Future studies may support an in vivo effect of sildenafil for delaying or inhibiting seminal vesicle emission, thereby, promoting improvement in patients with premature ejaculation.

Man... A guy just can't stay away from a topic like this - if only as a voyeur.

Yea, that would be YOU buddy! 8O

But seriously...

Bruise, this whole thing is both mental and physical.

When you're age 15 to 25 and just swimming with more testosterone than you can possibly know what to do with, you're ejaculating in your dreams. Guys usually settle down to be the best they can be from about 25 to 40 - issues aside. From that point on, you'd better hope you have good genes, and have been taking good care of yourself (no smoking, no overeating, no issues with diabetes, no issues with hypertension meds, etc., etc.).

Meanwhile... You can have the most beautiful woman in the world beside you who meets all your "on paper" specs for being THE woman. But if chemistry isn't there, forgetaboutit. And that is soooo complex. There are lots of studies on pheromones humans pass back and forth between each other, one of which suggests that "chemistry" is a function of tissue types (the more dissimilar, the better the chemistry). Being mentally "in tune" is a big factor. Tapping into the emotional element w/o being stressed is important. Memory and association is important. It goes on and on. So just because you're shooting blanks with Sally doesn't mean Sue won't knock your socks off. And just because Jane can't get you excited doesn't mean you won't break the kitchen table with the most incredible after-an-argument sex you've ever had in your life. You just need to circulate, man! 8)

As for the meds and physiology, well this is complex as you well know.

All Viagra does is help smooth muscle maintain its function. It was originally supposed to help perfusion in myocardial tissue, and the idea (concerning nitric oxide biochemistry) won someone a Nobel Prize. Then some bonehead (er... 8O  ) thought 'Gee, if it helps this tissue with perfusion, then maybe...' Only a guy would have figured that out. The rest is Wall Street history. The truth of the matter is Viagra probably won't do squat for a healthy young male. This is for older men who need to maintain erections longer because their biochemistry isn't quite as young, or they have other confounding issues.

You are on to something with the sympathetic, the coffee, etc. It is complex, as you know. Along those lines, yohimbe has been the herb of choice to manipulate sympathetic. Yohimbine - the active ingredient in yohimbe - is a selective antagonist of alpha 2-adrenergic receptors. It is used in many health food products as an "aphrodisiac." The only problem is that its effect on SNS and norepinephrine release will raise your blood pressure. It also can give you a headache and tinnitus (ear ringing).

On the flip side, many blood pressure meds which manipulate these same neurohormonal responses can REALLY screw up a guy's love life. Mick Jagger got it right; 'What a drag it is getting old!' But you do what you gotta do and get on with life.

Sooo.... Why not invite a young lady out to Starbucks, and see what happens? 8)

Time on target

For the amount of time we think about it compared to "time on target" it sure seems a poor investment. Joking guys...I think.

Previous studies have demonstrated that systemic administration of a low dose of the alpha2-adrenoceptor antagonists stimulates the ejaculatory response of male dogs, when this function is analyzed using the amount of ejaculated semen in response to genital stimulation. The present study was designed to further examine the features of the stimulatory effects of the alpha2-adrenoceptor antagonists on ejaculation, especially the duration of action. ..... These results indicate that yohimbine-induced ejaculatory stimulation is continued for a relative long period (at least 5 h after administration), and this long-lasting effects may be related to the alpha2-adrenoceptor blocking property of the drug.

Adam

It's nothing that a the right woman and a fine bottle of wine won't fix. ;)

Young males are so focused on the climax. What these knuckleheads don't know is that it's everything leading up to it that makes the biggest difference. Even older folks who know better get lazy and don't take the time. No excuse! Rather than seeking exogenous sexual stimulants, you're better off creating endogenous ones with the right company and the right process. Only people with real medical problems need help, and that should come from their doctor. Beyond that, it's a matter of being "master of your domain" on many levels. This goes both for the short run (your love interest at this point in time) and the long run (the ability to have fun in your golden years).

Mating rituals are better than most any "aphrodisiac" you could possibly find. And taking good care of yourself is step one in having everything work out as it should. Vive le roman! Finis origine pendet. 8)

Amen, to that previous statement, Bill.

Women have their set of problems with age as well, just different....and the same remedy Bill suggests does indeed work with women(IMHO and from a woman's standpoint).....there's definitely some truth to wanting a 'slow hand'. I think we live in such a 'hurry up' society, that we allow it to extend to our intimate, personal functions....we rush with the most important aspects, like love-making, that should never be rushed (except in a few given circumstances).

So, if I may not be so bold to ask, what age are we talking about here with this problem?

A. 25-35?
B. 35-45?
C. 45-55?
D. 55-65?

Is it okay that I comment on this? Hope I haven't scared anyone off of this very male topic.
