R. I. LTC

This is Dave Young's Forum.
Can you really bridge the gap between reality and training? Between traditional karate and real world encounters? Absolutely, we will address in this forum why this transition is necessary and critical for survival, and provide suggestions on how to do this correctly. So come in and feel welcomed, but leave your egos at the door!

Panther,

If you hold a Ma's LTC _ can you get one for RI?

Can you carry pepper spray in RI on a Mass license?

Rhode Island does not have reciprocity with any other State. (Although a handful of States recognize a RI LTC). If you go through a town PD (hopefully one where you know someone on the force), there is a "shall issue" clause to the RI law on LTCs. BUT, that clause has been argued to be only for residents. The other way to get a RI LTC is through the RI AG's office. The old AG was verey anti, but the new one is supposedly "pro"... realizing that "pro-gun" in RI, is not the same as what we consider "pro-gun" to be. The law is different for the RI AG issuing and it is a "May issue... upon a proper showing of need". You have a better bet going through a town.

The RI statute is online at:
http://www.rilin.state.ri.us/Statutes/T ... -47-11.HTM

You can get info on the AG's pistol permit process from:
http://www.riag.state.ri.us/ with the 34 page PDF package for the policy, laws and application at:
http://www.riag.state.ri.us/criminal/bc ... ctions.pdf

However because of Federal Law, RI has put in it's laws that you can legally carry THROUGH RI on your permit from another State. According to the Firarms Owners Protection Act, you must have your firearm in a locked area inaccessable to the driver OR in a unloaded in a locked container if your vehicle does not have a separate trunk to lock the firearm in. (Van, SUV, whatever...)

On the Pepper Spray... RI doesn't prevent you from carrying pepper-spray as long as you are 18 or over. See RI law: http://www.rilin.state.ri.us/Statutes/T ... -47-57.HTM

Actually, PRoMA is one of the handful of places that highly regulates defensive sprays. Even in New York the only real restriction is that it must be purchased from a firearms dealer or a pharmacist. Wisconsin, Michigan and California mainly regulate how potent the spray can be. DC requires that you register with the PD. However, Canada says you better not carry it at all! Just like PRoMA, they want to give the criminals a better opportunity.

As always IANALNDIPOOTV, so take what I post as MY understanding of the universe (which has been questioned by some of the best minds around!) Therefore, it's always best to check everything and make sure it fits your situation.

Then again... I always must state:

Free, lawful people should not be required to seek permission to exercise their Freedoms, Liberties, and Rights... Free People are Free regardless.
