Adam, quite the historical perspective re:Turkey and Lebanon, et al. So very true.

Now is there another motive as to why you posted these during the U.S. "Turkey" Day (Thanksgiving) :?: :?:
Ha! You noticed!

Actually it was the word "turkey'' that got me searching on belly dancing, because online everyones talking about it.

Why is thanksgiving on a different day in the U.S. then it is in canada?

Adam

You are a man after my heart.

I went out with a woman (Kathleen) for 8 years who was a belly dancer. Before we parted ways, she became my first female Uechi black belt. So let's say I have more than a passing interest.

The very first tape you posted IMO absolutely showed the best skill. It takes a trained eye (perhaps with an appreciation for 3-dimensional mathematical functions) to understand how damn good Didem was in that clip. That was an amazing demonstration of compound movement - one cyclic torsal movement superimposed upon another. And the spacial and temporal precision was remarkable.

Oh... and she makes my blood boil.

Did I just say that?

Damn straight this is relevant to martial arts. We can only hope to have that much control over our core.

Come to camp some time and maybe Rory's beautiful wife (Kami) will lead another beginner's belly dance session. I was out there with the rest of them having a blast. Go ahead - attack my manlihood. I had fun, damnit! 8)

It's weird, they don't have six packs or anything.

But they have good core body strength.

And im talking about slender girls(and men for that matter)

pretty cool

On my Dad's side, my grand-father was from Athens, Greece...and my grand-mother was from Istanbul, Turkey. She never taught me that. Darn, and I could have used it for my karate 'core'.

...and, yes, Bill was right. Kami's belly dancing instruction was great fun. Even Rory was doing it, but I figure he has the moves down from years of practice with Kami. Ya think?
