The women returned but the men didn't.
Free of the Puritan shackles and the hard labor of farming the men got used to hunting and Indian women and never looked back.
I have several Ancestors involved in that and other Indian invasions.
Deerfield was far from the only town invaded.
There is still an old Garrison in Scituate Mass once used for indian protection in that time, now a yuppy restaurant.
This is a favorite area of study.
I visited the home of my ancestor last summer in Bolton, built in 1700, the whole area was destroyed by Indians in 1697. My grandmother was taken to Canada, lived with the Indians for two years, learned medicine and returned as a doctor.
Unfortunately her daughter and husband were masacred.
But she became the first female doctor in the Colonies.
I have some pictures of her home, wild herbs of all types still grow around the property.
Present owner was quite shocked when I came to visit, he just got the house on the national historic house register so when I went over the names and dates he knew I was correct.

Great stuff. I love Bolton. Used to get lots of cases in the area. Quaint town.I visited the home of my ancestor last summer in Bolton, built in 1700, the whole area was destroyed by Indians in 1697.
Can you post a photo?
BTW...once the puritans fell into the hands of those wild Indian women, they lost their way back.
If I had met one like this...well...sayonara my friends

The Stebbins at Deerfield are many great aunts and uncles to me.
My great-great grandmothers middle name was Stebbins.
Here is another one of my family members who didn't get along with Indians. 8th great grandfather.

And another 7th great grandfather. 3rd great grandmother was a Sargent.
