The University of Virginia Magazine comes to our home quarterly because our youngest daughter attends UVa.
We just got the spring 2008 issue in and, while browsing through the pages, I came across a Student Life article, called "Fight Clubs"...listing the martial arts at UVa.
Holy Cow! They had everything, except our beloved Uechi-Ryu, which had been there for years (how many years, Bill?).
This included the following styles:
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Judo
Kickboxing
Dumdo
Mushin Jitsu (UVa's own discipline which originated on the grounds in 2000}
Myo Sim Karate
Shorin-Ken Karatedo
Shotokan Karate
Tae Kwon Do
Wushu
This just won't do. We need to seriously recruit someone to start Uechi classes again at UVa again.
Heck, that's where Bill started his Uechi training.
Another sad fact: until recently, UVa offered martial arts classes for college credit but NO MORE! Due to lack of practice space and funding, student activity is through extracurricular clubs. Double Damn!

"Cry in the dojo, laugh in the battlefield"
I know Bruce Lee invented his Jeet Kune Do, based on his Wing Chun and other styles he picked up.
So...what must take place, legally if at all, to have your own style, invented by you and approved to teach? Anything?
This can be fun....what would you name your own style if you invented it?
Regards,
Vicki
