The G-7 and the USA

Post by cxt »

Mark Steyn brought up something in his blog that I thought was interesting.

Its seem that while people here in the USA are saying that we need to be "more" like Europe---Europe is moving closer to the USA.

In the current G-7 Canada, France, Italy, Japan and Britian (assuming David Cameron beats Gordon Brown) all will have Right leaning leaders---except the USA--who leans very Left in Obama and arguably Leftish in some of McCain's postions.

Is it possible that in our haste to more like Europe we have overlooked that Europe is changing as well?

What do you folks think?

(Yeah, yeah, I know its the G-8----the resugent Russia in Putin hands might be "Left" but as Steyn points out its a more "muscular variety than Obama's.")

Don't get me started...

Amazing that France elected a conservative, pro-US leader, no? That one really caught me off guard.

While politicians squabble over here, Europe is benefiting from our sacrifices in the Middle East. Our military campaigns have become magnets for whackos seeking their virgins in heaven. That's left innocent civilians in peace - for now. They've also benefited from us keeping Middle East oil flowing.

In the end everyone votes their self interest. You can call it greed. You can call it selfishness. But it is the nature of man.

Bill

Sadly I'd have to agree----Europe has been the beneficary of many of our actions.

Its just weird to me to have listened to people telling me for decades that we need to be "more like" Europe and handle things "more like" the Europeans---and after being well to right of Europe---and being told that was our "main" problem---is being so out of step with the rest of the world--now were going to be well to the left of the trend---and out of step again.

Figures.
