Harlan and Vicki,
I add both of you to my prayer list (which has gotten VERY large of late) for the best outcomes. I don't believe in giving in to despair or bitterness. Fear happens, but I will not let it stop me from living.

This is our 3rd wave of layoffs this year here, so we are all a bit shell shocked. I am just focusing on keeping things in perspective, not taking any of this personally, and realizing this is only one part of my life. It helps.

Meanwhile, it's a reminder to get my financial house and my resume in good order, and always tell those I love that I appreciate them!

I appreicate you ladies, thank you!

I have not been able to motivate myself on several projects I know I need to do...so this was truly meant for me today.

Enjoy,
Vicki

The reason why
+++++++++++++++++++

You know what you must do. And yet how do you get yourself to do it?

Again and again, remind yourself why. With a strong enough reason why, you will be able to do anything at any time in any circumstance.

If you're tempted to put off a task until later, remind yourself why you truly want to get it done. Put a powerful why behind it, and you'll find a way to do it now.

Real achievement demands many consistent, focused efforts spread over long periods of time. The way to keep it up is to keep it meaningful.

Give your long-term intentions the opportunity to dispel the short-term, momentary urges. With a clear, solid purpose firmly in mind, you'll stay reliably on track.

Whatever you choose to imagine can happen for you.
Constantly give your goals a sincere reason why, and you'll bring them steadily to life.

Driving desire
+++++++++++++++++++

What is the most important thing you must contribute to your
own success? It is the persistent and prevailing desire to
make that success happen.

The things you don't know can be learned. The resources
necessary can be found and acquired.

Yet if there is no driving desire, then the knowledge and
the resources will be of no use. Real, unique, meaningful
desire is what will make success happen and is what will
make it worthwhile.

Complex systems, vast networks and powerful machines can
accomplish much. Yet they cannot figure out what to
accomplish.

That is your special area of expertise. You are able to feel
the tug of desire and then find ways to express and fulfill
those desires.

Listen intently to your authentic desires, and dive into the
heart of them. Find the value that you can give to all of
life, and make it happen.

Positive start
+++++++++++++++++++

Start each day the way you wish to live it. Take positive control of your thoughts, your actions, your feelings and your attitude before some random occurrence ends up imposing its perspective on you.

Be open to the surprises while also being decisive and focused about what you intend to do. Get a few nice accomplishments under your belt early on, and set an effective, empowering pace for the whole day.

Right away, find some new thing for which to be thankful.
Your sincere gratitude will shine its light on the best of the day's possibilities.

When you feel a worry coming, move quickly to transform it into creative action. If it seems that you're beginning to be overwhelmed, focus intently on whatever is most important to you.

While the day is young, decide on some new way that you can make a meaningful difference for others. Then start taking the steps that will make it happen.

Give yourself some real power and effectiveness by beginning each day in a joyfully decisive and lovingly purposeful way.
And life grows richer with each passing hour.

Find a way
+++++++++++++++++++

Don't believe those who tell you that it can't be done.
Refuse to be stopped by those who say it's too late, or not
practical, or too early, or not workable.

Listen carefully and thoughtfully to their advice, and then
find a way. Look realistically at the challenges, and then
begin working through them.

What may appear to be an unyielding obstacle when you're
standing still, will begin to give way when you start moving
forward. Focus not on what is pushing against you, but focus
instead on the purpose that is pushing you to get it done.

Remind yourself again and again of why you must. Hold your
head high and keep your eyes on the goal.

Conditions will change, and so can you. Some routes will be
blocked, and you have the flexibility to discover alternate
ways to get it done.

Decide that you will accomplish what you have chosen to
accomplish. Know that there is a way, and step by step, you
will find it.

Authentic and unique
+++++++++++++++++++

You are unique. So think like it, act like it, and make the most of it.

Breakthroughs do not come from following the crowd. You are capable of truly great achievements if you will simply and authentically and passionately be you.

Why would you let anyone else define who you can be and what you can do? Those are decisions that are best made by you.

You have something valuable that no one else has. You have the unique perspective of being you, of seeing the world in a way that cannot be duplicated.

You have dreams that are yours alone, hopes, passions, things that interest you, things that make you laugh and things that make you cry. They all combine to create outstanding opportunities for fulfillment.

In all you do, richly express the wonderful, unique person that is you. And find joy in seeing your greatest achievements flow from your most authentic and unique efforts.

Ralph Marston

I'm posting two in a row today. I had to put up Tuesday's as well. I love that one. I was so busy running around that day, I forgot to read it.

One of my philosophies in life is "A smile is your best make-up". If I get caught in public with no make-up, I just smile larger and just don't worry. Try it.

Vicki

Be real
+++++++++++++++++++

The world will often discourage you from giving love. Give love anyway.

Many times, despite your best efforts, you will not be understood. Keep giving it your best anyway.

The treasures in life are not what you get back. Those things are only shadows of life's true value.

The real treasures are what you're able to give of yourself.
And as long as you give authentically, from the heart, with the best you have, it doesn't really matter what comes of it.

It's nice to be acknowledged and respected and understood.
Yet even when you're not acknowledged or understood, there is still great value in doing what you know is right, what you know is best.

Smile a peaceful smile to the depth of your being. Be real, and know that all is well.

Ralph Marston

Pain and pleasure
+++++++++++++++++++

You always have the ability to change your life for the
better. To take the specific actions that will bring about
that change, you must find the motivation within yourself to
do so.

To create your own powerful, personal motivation, set
yourself up to do two things that come naturally. Move away
from pain and move toward pleasure.

If something is painful, you will be highly inclined to move
away from it. So remind yourself at the deepest level about
the painful consequences of not taking action, of not making
the changes you know you must make.

When something is pleasurable, you will naturally and
without hesitation move toward it. Arrange to make the
changes so completely and meaningfully pleasurable that you
cannot help but take the actions necessary to bring them
about.

When you give yourself a compelling reason to change, you
will most certainly find the way to make those changes. When
you clearly know why, within the depth of your being, you
will figure out how, and you'll enthusiastically do whatever
must be done.

Yes, you can indeed make a positive change in your life
right now. Move away from the pain of inaction and toward
the pleasure of whatever you sincerely seek.

Ralph Marston
