Base Re-alignment and Closure (BRAC) Effect

Post by KentuckyUechi »

I was just wondering how many Uechi practitioners would be affected by BRAC. I'm no expert on the subject, however, as I understand it there will be a large influx of new military personnel and support staff to the Ft. Knox KY area. (not that this is the only base affected)
Many of these personnel will be from the East Coast. Areas such as Maryland, Virginia, DC, etc. which of course have many more Uechi practitioners than there are in this area.

Anyone else have any thoughts or input on this?

Areas of Virginia - particularly the Tidewater area where I grew up - are teaming with military installations. A few losses here and there and some reorganizations are in order. There are also many military installations up and down the I-95 corridor.

I don't know of any significant (percentage-wise) loss from the Old Dominion. There's plenty of action to go around here, so some loss is fine. Meanwhile, many of the closings in the Tidewater area will be welcome. The land is just too valuable. They'll find the people and industries to fill them no problem.

Good for Ft. Knox! I hope it helps their economy. It's actually a good thing to lose military installations in highly populated areas, and a good thing for more rural communities to gain them. Both benefit in the long run.

Fort Knox has had such an up-and-down utilitization in recent decades, with periods of considerable reduction in personnel and the appearance not too long ago that it would be closed altogether. I'm glad to hear that it has more life left in it. The distant thumping of exploding ordinance from the tanks during their exercises always fascinated (and fueled the imagination of) this rural Kentucky boy growing up about 20 miles away. Unfortunately with BRAC the U.S. Army Armor Center and School is being relocated from Ft. Knox to Ft. Benning, but at least that is not resulting in the closing of the base.
