While I realize some folks think Facebook is communication central, I really don't spend that much time on it. Too much of a time waster. I spend far more time reading periodicals or books.chef wrote:

I agree Facebook has really gotten out of hand. People never call each other anymore. They have to text or play on websites like Facebook. I mean is that really a true way to show a friend how much you care about them? Why has the world let technology consume them and mold them to be so 3rd party dependent. Would it not mean more to hear a best friends voice calling you asking how your day was? Is it too much to ask if you want to share a game of cards or something to that nature that you do so in person? What the heck have we become? I am an old soul and for generations humans respond better to their 5 senses when all have the ability to be combined or partially combined. This could be why divorce rates are so high. We have forgotten what communication means. Humans, need to be touched, talked to, acknowledged etc.Bill Glasheen wrote:chef wrote:

When it was outdoors, I'd just sit up on a hill with my dog, and watch the crowd from afar. My friends would come up and sit with me one-by-one, and have a much more interesting and intimate conversation.

What can you say about texting/Facebook that doesn't apply analogously to the telephone vs personal visits? Certainly, something is lost the more distant the means of communication, but doesn't the ability to communicate any time makes up for much of that? There are times when you can call that you can't visit and there are times when you can text but you can't call.PreyingMantis wrote: I agree Facebook has really gotten out of hand.
