Master rank candidates at camp

Postby Van Canna » Sat Jul 14, 2012 3:35 pm

Hi George,

Many people have been asking about who will be the candidates, this year at camp, for 6th_7th_8th_ possibly 9th.

Is it possible to list their names here?

Also, what are the times and days Rory will be holding seminars at camp?

Thanks,
Van

Hi Van:
Its been a very busy couple of months for me. Haven't had time to check the forums as often as I would like. (Thanks for reminding me of this post)

Here is the approved list of Master Awards scheduled for this year's SummerFest. Because of the large number of candidates, we will be modifying the ceremony slightly in order to view everyone's kata. I'll be leading the group through their sanchin. Then two at a time will demonstrate their Seisan and Sanseiryu.
Here is the approved list:
Peter Blackman – 8th dan
Henry Thom – 8th dan
Bill Bauknecht – 8th dan
Roy Bedard – 7th dan
Mario Rizzo – 7th dan
John Felipe – 7th dan
Paul Giella – 7th dan
David Berndt - 6th dan
Fedele Cacia – 6th dan
Robb Buckland – 6th dan
Gerry Gross – 6th dan

All candidates have submitted a biography and picture that I'm inserting into a brochure that will be available at the award's ceremony.

Please note that visitors not participating in SummerFest will be charge a $20 admission to the ceremony. Of course, each candidates family will be admitted free. (The JunglePlex does not have seating, which means we must rent chairs for spectators on Saturday. Based on the number of SummerFest participants who will be attending, we will be hard pressed to determine the number of "walk-ins" who will be attending. Non-participants. . . please order your tickets in advance so we will be able to estimate chairs needed and space to allocate. Thanks.

Thank you George for the information many will find useful for plans to attend.

Do we have any awards for 9th this year?

We do have a special "Lifetime Achievement" award the new IUKF "Titles and Awards" committee have instituted. One person a year will be honored with this award.

The committee has selected John Spencer for 2012. John is also celebrating his 50th year studying and teaching Uechi-ryu.

Thank you.

And John Spencer certainly deserves the award. :)

I'm very pleased to report that Henry Thom, who is being honored at the Masters' Celebration, has just been approved for the title of "Hanshi" and has earned his third gold stripe. Bruce Witherall, Chairman of the Titles Committee, has been working with Henry, who recently submitted his thesis:

George,

I do understand that no Kyudans [9th] have been recommended for this year.

If anyone, I would choose Dave Mott, Dave Finklestein, and Al Wharton, if they have the time in grade.

Fine practitioners.

I agree Van... But they don't have sufficient time.
