Hello. I hope this letter find you and your family well.
It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of my
grandfather, Shinyu Gushi.
My grandfather passed away the morning of Wednesday, November 21st.
My grandfather was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer this past July, and
had fought against cancer since then.
However, the time came for him to sleep peacefully.
We did not expect for such an early farewell and it is very difficult for
us to let him go.
Although we are still in deep sorrow for the loss of our beloved husband,
father, and grandfather,
we believe that the best thing for us to do right now is staying strong
and going back to our daily routines.
He would not want his family, friends, or students to be in sorrow for too
long.
He would, instead, want us to do our best in our lives, and ultimately
accomplish more than he was able to in his life.
That was something he always wished for and would always tell the family.
From the Gushi Family, we would like to ask you all to not be so upset.
Instead, please continue to love karate, spread your love for karate, and
become karate masters greater than my grandfather.
We know he would love to see that happen and it would be his wish coming
true.
Thank you so much for respecting and being so great to my grandfather over
the years.
I know he cannot be more proud to have wonderful students like you all.
I can confidently say that my grandfather lived a great life being
surrounded by all of you.
It was my great pleasure being able to be the mediator between all of you
and my grandfather through email.
Please continue to let us know of how you are all doing because we would
love to know and so we can relay the message to my grandfather.
Lastly but not least, we had his funeral on Wednesday, November 28th, at
Fukui Mortuary in L.A.
When my grandfather was healthy, he had always asked for a small scale
funeral.
As family, we wanted to respect his will. Thank you for understanding.
Thank you so much for everything and please take care.
