Better sharpen up on awareness and keep on the lookout.

http://washington.cbslocal.com/2013/11/ ... WASHINGTON (CBSDC) –

Quote:
A terrifying new ‘game’ that’s already caused deaths in Syracuse, St. Louis and New Jersey is sweeping the nation, and it preys upon unsuspecting people walking the streets, anywhere.

A recent report from New York-based CBS 2 shed light on the growing trend, displaying unsettling footage of teens participating in this game – which goes by the name ‘Knockout’ – and involves randomly targeting passersby, with the ultimate goal being to knock them out with one punch as they walk by.

One victim shown in the footage was 46-year-old Ralph Santiago of Hoboken, N.J., who was found dead with his neck broken and head lodged between iron fence posts, according to NJ.com.

Video surveillance shows Santiago walking in an alleyway in broad daylight, and just as he’s about to pass a pack of teenagers, one launches the fatal, knockout blow.

And what’s the point?

“For the fun of it,” one teen said in the video.

“They just want to see if you got enough strength to knock somebody out,” said another.

D.C. has not been spared of this violent trend.

One local woman, who was attacked on 14th Street NW in Columbia Heights on Thursday, tells DCist.com she believes to have been a target of this game, as a group of around eight males on bikes came up behind her, with one hitting her in the head. According to the report, police categorized the attack as “simple assault.”

The woman tells the publication she believes others in the area should be on the lookout for similar types of attacks.

Wild animals have taken over. Where are the zoo keepers?

Having said that, animals are well protected by our goodie-goodie society and liberal justice system. The zoo keepers are constantly getting into troubles for doing their job. So there!

I better shut up before being called all sorts of names.

Not funny. Not cool!

A video clip made ABC's Good Morning America this morning.

we had something similar in the UK a few years back. They called it "happy slapping", thankfully it died out, one of the reasons I believe is that in these politically correct days few people have fights whereas when I was younger it was commonplace.so I guess it was sheep attacking lions

I can't wait for this "funny game" to take an unexpected turn, and go seriously awry. Wait for it.

I am sorry the news put her name in there as she no doubt will now have more animals at her door.

Very possibly indeed.

I also expect civil action _if not criminal.

Michelle Boykins, a spokeswoman for the National Crime Prevention Council, says what is so disturbing about the trend is that it is so random and the intent is to hurt someone seriously.

She says that the instances often involve someone walking alone, so she suggests the tried-and-true ways to stay safe: walk with a friend and always remain aware of your surroundings.

"There is safety in numbers," she says. "And if you are by yourself, there is nothing wrong for you to decide to cross the street if you see a group of people walking toward you."

Typical text book self defense comment. Yeah most of time it is easy to tell. They stand out like sore thumbs, but my biggest concern is such as the one happened to the young woman walking along the train then the thug from way behind turned around and knocked her senseless. I see that as the most dangerous threat. We should start wearing rear-view mirrors?

Here is an article that most or all main stream media do not want to mention:

xxx and his 10 of his friends thought they found an easy mark for a bit of the old Knockout Game. They chose the wrong guy: He pulled a knife and killed xxx and wounded one other attacker. The attackers’ parents said their children were innocent, just like (whatshisname) in Florida

CNN however, was eager to report that the families of the ---- people arrested and later convicted of the crime after posting it on Facebook were good boys who were just playing a “prank that got out of hand.”
yada yada---

So true, Henry.

These guys also are getting smarter at setting people up. One of the kos seemed to have happened to a guy who was talking to one of those @#$% and then pointed away as in giving directions.

Ok we now also have a victim pulling a knife and killing one of those !@#$...

Hopefully there will be more of these example, to send a message...but then again, it might get worse.

Most of the people who get beat up are vegans, gays, artists, non-violent types. Many are kids from the suburbs or recent immigrants. People who are not prepared to defend themselves. There are white neighborhoods – blue collar, middle class neighborhoods – where these folks will not go because they know that people there are willing to defend themselves

physical appearance is not always an indicator of what the person is like......there are a lot of old uechi masters who look like nothing in city clothes but have impressive physiques, also you get weedy looking crazy people, and some power lifters just look like fat people

Again this is true and sad to have to contemplate.

I have trained myself over the years, not to be paranoid over this, but to walk and keep my head 'swiveling' much as I do when driving...plus looking behind me every 10 steps or so in a relaxed manner, such as one would check a rear view mirror on the highway.

Plus, I have a weapon at the ready at all times.[the continuum]

It is also prudent to try and walk, if possible, in places where there are stores, businesses, etc., so that at the first sign of 'perceived' problems...one can just 'duck' into...out of harms way.

Thinking in this manner might just help avoiding this new plague.
