audio clip help needed

Post by gmattson »

I am trying to post a rather long (11meg) audio clip to this site and am wondering if there are any compression programs that might reduce the size.

The China trip tapes are fantastic! I wanted to air one of the many bull sessions Marty Dow, Buzz Durkin and I had at the end of each day. This clip is about Shushiwa and the names of our kata, plus much more.

One way I know of to reduce wav file size is to record it a 11 khz and 8 bit. The sound clarity won't be as good but if it's only talking, that may not be to much of a factor. Tony may know of another way or how to make it a real audio file.

My Hitachi camcorder, with harddrive, is able to record video (mpeg1) images (jpg) and audio with a single picture (mpeg1). I recorded about 8 minutes, but was unable to get anything on my computer to read it. (Probably something in the manual I missed) So I recorded the segment using standard windows avi recorder, but was only able to do 1 minute segments (about 1 meg) I posted it on the ViewPoint feature, but its real slow loading.... I'll look into your suggestion, Scott. Thanks

What a difference Tony! I was able to download and listen to all 7 clips in less time than it would have taken to download a single avi clip. And the quality was certainly acceptable. (Had a little distortion on certain levels of voice)

I'll delete the avi files and post the Real Player site. Since we may want to do more voice clips, everyone should download the Real Player module.
