Netscrape Version 6

Yeah, I like it. It's a bit unstable, but at least (unlike 4.7 and IE 5) it doesn't crash the whole system.

It sure looks like UNIX, don't it?

I like it a lot better than the others, but I'll be happier when they get the bugs out (the major one is that when you run two browser windows at the same time, it has trouble keeping them seperate--I had the Uechi Ryu website superimposed on one of my web mail sites--very confusing).

It doesn't sync well with some of my web utilities either--(Gator for sure).

Hi Maurice.

I haven't had too much time to test it out, maybe I'll download it this weekend at least just to get used to the look and feel of it.

It is going to be hard getting used to it as I have grown accustomed to putting different skins on my browser, just to break the boredom. I'll see if I can do the multiple windows with it, almost a necessity these days.

I'm concerned about CSS, DHTML compatibilities between browsers. I forgot that Netscape is AOL now.

Allen,

One of the new things in V.6 is--apparently--the ability accept skins skins.

Too bad I didn't get to use any Netscape 5 version.
Found this article Netscape6 Pre-Release review
Looks like BETA to avoid!

Just got Netscrape Version 6 up and running. Cool! But sure looks different than anything I've seen before. Very Unixish. I wonder why Sun would do that?

So far it seems faster than IE.

Pretty neat, downloading seems to download only a kernel for installation, and the installation itself grabs the rest.

Netscrape did it again, and I think I'll read about the horrors of the pre-release Beta, thanks lurker.
I finally got a chance to look at my own website a few minutes ago with the new Netscrape. It simply doesn't like the JavaScripting and Cascading Style Sheets I built into it, either messes up the display, or a lot of the cool things I built into it don't work. The folding menu on the opening page doesn't work, and the test of my weekly classes is all messed up for two starters. Shirtsleeve roll-up time next weekend.

Netscrape lost it all way back when, and never could catch up. People may get in on the current frenzy and badmouth MS (I get po'd at them too [often]!), but their products, while not usually bug-free, are superior.

I just downloaded it. I think it stinks. But if it works better on your systems, lucky you.

I messed around with it this afternoon after I got home from work, and found it to be rough, more of an Alpha release than a Beta release. Putting Netscrape side-by-site with IE on my CRT at the same time, exposed some glaring differences between the way the two of them handle identical code.

Although it is not going to be the browser of choice, it can stay and earn its keep.

Allen,
I played with the Current Alpha code and it was scary 8) Choked on some heavy shockwave pages. Crashed on cue in heavy java/popup pages Image
I have 4 browsers loaded for "proof checking" web sites. It's really an eye opener to see how differently they each handle the same site.
Browser 1 isn't a browser in my eyes
1.) WebTV yes WEBTV the non nothing browser!
No java, no shockwave, no flash, no nothing fancy. Frames are ok as long as you follow HTML 3.2 standards
2.) Opera 4
Yes a browser that fits on a disk (1.44meg)
Makes you humble because it is STRICT to the HTML standards
3.)Netscrape 4.08
Crashes often and chokes on heavy Java pages. Sticky on frames and some IE stuff
4.)IE 5.x
Makes anything look good and works like a charm. NOT HTML standard enforceing. I see 98% of my traffic as IE 4/5.

Actually getting the new Netscrape going was an eye opener, so it was a good thing.

Opera is pretty neat; I had that up and running for awhile.

How are you doing with your Husky database?

Had a setback last Monday. Got a "real" job Tuesday. Haven't really done much on it.
I figure I'll actually start it this week.
Flat file CSV seems to be the way to go.

Work is the curse of the leisure class. Getting a job was the setback, right?

The setback was the death of a foster dog.
Started Sunday night. She started getting better early Monday morning but by 7:55am Monday she was gone. Really upsetting as she was going to her new forever home later that week. But anyway more then you wanted to know Image
Cheers!
