When I throw a kick, I think about pushing my glutes down, then forward. This starts the hip rotation - which will open the knee crease and launch the kick.
I must do a little stomach crunch at the same time and tuck your chin to avoid leaning back.
In order for the kick to explode I relax my quads. I keep them from engaging until the moment of impact. Also, I work to focus the foot without tightening the calf muscles as these will also slow the kick.
Can you walk me through your kick? Are you aware of how you actually do your kick?
I'm not talking right or wrong here - just how you actually do it.

Using your glutes to kick
When i kick i think im similar but i deffinately start with the stomach , I use the glutes also but , but hold back what i call the thrust until the legs maybe half way through the kick , for this i really use a secondary push and this is were i really use a fire of all the muscles , your sure right this is difficult to explain .
maybe its best explained by a quick tuck and explode , not sure if that made sense but there you go
